How do I avoid that icky feeling from rides?

When we went to Disneyland, we got there at opening and ran straight to Indiana Jones and then did Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain. It was a little bit much for me back to back and made me have that "ugh" feeling for quite a few hours...to the point that I thought doing Space Mountain would just put me over the edge. So I didn't do it. :sad1: I heard it was good.

So now that we're going to Disney World, I would love to try to ride some of the big attractions, EE, RnR and MAYBE even ToT, and of course do the rides at MK like the ones we did at Disneyland. Drops make me kind of nervous, and I felt like if I told myself that it's not scary, but fun, it helped.

My questions...

Did any of these or other rides make you feel kind of gross?

Do motion sickness medications really help? Seems weird to go on rides all drugged up

What things do you do to not get that icky feeling? Wait til the end of the day to ride certain rides? Eat a very light breakfast in the morning?

I get motion sickness pretty easily so sometimes I take a motion sickness pill but usually not. The pills make me tired and tend to raise my blood pressure.

I do time my meals according to what I'm planning to ride, like not riding just after eating, making sure I eat light, eating the right kinds of foods for my sensitive stomach........

and this is the most important one for me...I always have a bottle of Coka Cola with me. Coke syrup used to be given to ward off nausea and sipping some Coke after a ride almost always helps me get past the woozy nauseated feeling.

Good luck! I hope you're able to ride all the rides you want!

Oh yeah, I wouldn' twant to get all sleepy =). Thanks for your thoughts and for the tip about Coca Cola. I didn't know that...or maybe I did and forgot  Here is some more info I found:

Relieve an upset stomach, nausea, or the pangs of food poisoning. Open a can of Coca-Cola, let it sit until it goes flat (roughly thirty minutes), then drink the defizzed real thing. Coca-Cola syrup is used an elixir to cure upset stomaches, and it still works, according to The Doctor’s Book of Home Remedies. Letting the bubbles out of the soda prevents the carbonation from further upsetting your stomach.

I felt vaguely icky after Mission Space but mostly because I deliberately looked to the side and closed my eyes. I cannot be trusted, and will try to avoid nausea in the future by following simple instructions.

Take it easy and try not to do all the rides in a row. I don't usually suffer from motion sickness but I have been known to ride BTMRR back to back 4 times and then feel distinctly dizzy - the same for EE. I agree with DISMN time your eating so you haven't consumed a heavy meal before riding. And if you start to feel ill take a break - you can always get a FP and come back later :)

I take ginger pills. You can find them with the vitamins at Walmart. They are fairly cheap and don't make you drowsy. I even take them before getting on the plane. They work very well for me.

Everyone in my family gets motion sick easily (I can't even sit in the back set of the car on mountain roads!), and we take Dramamine II (the non-drowsy kind). We never get motion sick, and we don't get sleepy either. Each AM at breakfast we all pop one and we're good for the entire day (they last for 12 hours).

that happens to me, but I enjoy the attractions so much that I will keep going on them. When I read about people riding BTM 5 times in a row because of lack of crowds, I cringe.

I like the advice of not too many in a row. I can do TOT and RNR back to back, but not twice. I need a break after hitting both of those first thing in the morning. Fortunately, that is all there is at H Studios. AK, you ride EE, then get a break. Epcot - really only MS, because Test Track will not do that to you. I would also think that MK is difficult due to crowds to ride many of these attractions back to back.

Bonine.

It's the non-drowsy version of dramamine, and it's wonderful!!! No side effects and you feel terrific on any wild ride. I'm get extrememly motion sick, but I'm also coaster nut, and I've been on some exceptionally wicked coasters. Bonine works like a dream!!!

I was just going to post this!! I love Bonine, it doesn't give you any kind of drugged or icky feeling, and it works. My Dd is a thrill ride nut, and this is the only thing that keeps me from sitting out the rides, or getting that gross feeling in the morning that ruins the entire day.

Is Bonine the same as Dramamine II and are they over the counter Thanks Kim

Even Bonine makes me sleepy. My husband got a prescription patch that he wears behind his ear for deep sea fishing. He says it really works, with no side effects. He cuts his in half and I have a cousin that is really tiny. She quarters hers. I have never tried them, but they swear by them.

I have purchased a Relief Band--this is a Motion sickness device that
was developed for Pilots who get sick flying stunts.
It really works but is not the cheap bands that cost ($5.00 -$8.00) the Relief band cost from $79.99 and $150.00 each. I have since purchased one for each member in our family. Each member in my Family has tryed my Rband out last trip and it really works at relieving motion sickness, Migraine(headaches) and even upset stomach from overeating.
It is well worth the investment. I will last for years, the batteries are
replaceable. I purchased my on Ebay.

I've used all the remedies recommended above. The Relief band works great, but it's $$$ and if you leave it on too long (I'm talking hours like I once did on a cruise!) you can get a slight burn on your wrist.

I would recommend you try Bonine sometime before you go and see if it makes you too drowsy. It works well for me. I also take along ginger tabs which really settle the stomach down nicely. And yes, try to time your rides so you aren't doing too many at once. You never know what will mess with you. I can do BTM over and over with no problem (my record is 9X in a row) and TOT also (record is 8X) but EE hits my limit with twice!

Good luck.

I don't think the relief band was meant to be left on for long periods of time.
I only use mine to ride a ride which last maybe 3 minutes then turn off.

It's better than taking a medication because it does not react with any other meds you may be taking and there is no side effects unless you overuse for to long of a time. It's also safe for those who have High Blood pressure.
My Sister got drowsy even from taking NON-Drowsy Bonine and I let her borrow Mine Band and she loves it.
I think it is the best investment that I've made in years.

Mythbusters showed that the only thing that really works for motion sickness is ginger tablets (and by proxy, Ginger ale). Your mileage may varry. Dramamine works for me, but, puts me to sleep.

You will find Bonine on the same shelf as the Dramamine. I don't know if it is the same stuff as Dramamine II because I won't take any Dramamine ever again, but love Bonine.

My sister and I both have motion isckness issues and we HATE the drugged up feeling others have mentioned...Our home cure is Water Crackers :thumbsup2 I carry them in the parks in a small container and just munch one or two after a ride. Helps me tremendously.

I saw that episode of Mythbusters - I felt so sorry for the guys who had to go through the tests with the remedies that didn't work! It inspired me to try ginger tablets while driving on the very curvy roads of Ireland, and it really helped me a lot.
