How do I add one day to a ticket?

I have a 4-day ticket purchased for May trip to DL. I want to add 1 day to the ticket? How can I do this?
I read on-line that I can not do this through the app and instead need to call. I looked up a Disneyland phone number for tickets, called and heard a message to use the Chat feature in the app. I entered my query into chat. Waited over an hour to receive this reply:
"We can not technically do upgrades. We can offer you the option to purchase a new set of tickets and then we can request a refund on your original order...Any previous reservations will be lost..."
REALLY! I can't just add a day? I thought that was an easy thing to do?
Help!

Unfortunately it is not an easy thing to do. AFAIK, the only way to do it is buy new tickets and request a refund, and you do in fact lose your existing reservations.

But, the tickets were bought by someone else as a gift. I don’t want to bother them with the process.
Can I add a day when I’m on site? Or is that pointless bc there would be no park availability?

I just went though this and the only option was to cancel the original tickets and buy new tickets. The reservations were not an issue for me because the trip was far enough in the future. They said the refund will take 2 billing cycles! The CM said you can add a day in person, but then getting a reservation is likely an issue.

UPDATE:
Went on-line and cancelled the original 4-day tickets.
Bought new 5-day tickets.
Saw CC charge for new tickets a few days later. Did not see refund. Called Disney.
Cast member said tickets are non-refundable...WHAT!
I cancelled them. No you didn't...you only cancelled the park reservations.
I politely explained that the system is not intuitive. That purchasing the tickets is linked to making the reservation.
Anywhoo, after a while of politely pleading my ignorance, she kindly said she would make an exception and refund the 4-day tickets.
Buyer beware.

Its amazing how dumb Disney has become since 2020. I don’t know if Iger was the glue that held the ship of morons together or if the pandemic made everyone morons, but they just can’t do anything right it seems.

They’ll beat their chest on short term profitability with pent up pandemic demand, but then wonder where everyone went in 2024 when people opt to spend their vacation dollars elsewhere.

For the first time we are thinking of not renewing our passes in August. We are getting universal passes in June and might just stick with those.

Anti-consumer company.

They are making things so hard and not using common sense. If you have tickets and reservations and want to spend more money by going more days, spending more money in the parks they should figure out a way to just add that on. Not rocket science. People flying in just to upgrade tickets is insane.

Disney tickets state that they are non-refundable, non-transferable, and not for resale. This gets repeated often on this board. Refunds can happen, but more as pixie dust, not standard Disney MO.

Unfortunately I am seeing this and "I haven't gone to wdw or DL since before covid so I didn't know about reservations" in addition to tickets being non refundable and non transferrable. The worst part is working customer service 25 years you're expected to just "fix it".
I hate to say it but all this information is CLEARLY STATED MULTIPLE TIMES before and after you purchase. While yes on occasion I have been refunded for a 1 day ticket under extenuating circumstances I don't feel that "not knowing" is a valid excuse in today's age of internet and information readily available directly through the Disney sites. I help countless people I know and strangers on social media platforms answer questions daily..all of which are tagged on the very top of the page. At some point Disney will likely cut off the refund process because as consumers it is absolutely our responsibility to understand what we are purchasing and the limitations. I'm glad it worked out but thats why I tell everyone to spend time on the site FIRST before going gung ho and booking anything.

I understand and appreciate your point. I am grateful Disney made an exception for my mistake. BUT, part of my point is the confusion over the ticket purchase vs. the park reservation. Clearly, that is confusing. How many threads have there been on that alone on DL and WDW boards? Many.
My confusion was that when cancelling the park reservation, it seemed like I was cancelling the tickets. If I had understood that I was merely cancelling the park reservation, I would not have proceeded to then purchase the new 5 day ticket.
So, I post not to complain about Disney, but hopefully to help someone else avoid my mistake.

Usually yes, you are right. But Covid was a force majeure that Disney should be bending over backwards to help guests reschedule. The tickets either needed to be extended well into the future or they needed to find a way to easily get them to remotely change to a new ticket.

What they are doing is sloppy and unorganized. It wouldn’t be as big of an issue if there wasn’t a reservation system in place but seeing as they are the only theme park in the country that insists on still implementing it, they are once again creating a problem and providing a convoluted solution.
