How do Grand Gatherings work?

Hi all, I am in the process of planning a birthday trip for next Nov (08) with my best friend, and we are thinking of inviting a bunch of our friends to join us, and from what I understand, if it's a minimum of 13 guests, it's considering a Grand Gathering, and I would like to learn more about them, like resort rates, reserving, etc, so any info anyone can provide would be great!

You only need to have 8 to be a gathering. That's how many are in mine. About the only advantage that I can see is the special events that are available, for a fee, of course.

You stole my thunder. We only have 9 in our party. I was informed while confirming our reservations for this August that we were a Grand Gathering. This was not even something that was discussed when I was originally making our reservations. When I was confirming our room requests, I was told that even if our rooms were not connecting they would be right next to each other since we were a Grand Gathering. Not sure if this is accurate or not but I'll be sure to report back upon our return.
