I swear I keep my counters clean at all times, and I never have the drawers beneath them open when wiping the counters anyway. I have a new-ish dishwasher that does a great job, and my silverware is always put away perfectly clean. But yesterday I found myself once again cleaning crumbs from the divided compartments in the silverware holder. Does anyone else have that problem? I can't imagine how crumbs can possible collect in there. Just seems like one of life's weird mysteries!

I'll bet anything that sometimes when you're cutting up bread or buttering, etc., the drawer is still open a wee bit, and when you sweep away the crumbs, some of them fall in.

We have the same problem, because the toaster is on the counter above the drawer. Invariably bread sometimes gets handled when the drawer is partly open, and sure enough, crumbs find their way in.

Can't be the cause for me, because the flatware drawer is 3 feet from where I slice bread. The toaster is across the kitchen, a good 10 feet away.

It's the drawer divider that does it, I'm convinced. Those things are a crumb magnet that can suck bread crumbs through a closed drawer. It's a wonder I don't see crumbs flying through the air as efficient as they are. ;)

I have the same issue. And our silverware drawer is under a counter where food prep isn't even done.

I've never tried to pinpoint the issue, but I wonder if someone gets out bread (or other food) and then goes to grab a knife or whatnot, transferring crumbs from fingers.

Yes. Don’t try to understand it. Just accept it. Lol.

Yes
Yes
and Yes!!!

This has always confused me too - why does this happen :confused3
I will never understand - LOL!

Leftover bread bits fallen from the serrated knife? Perhaps a late night chef crept into your kitchen to secretly concoct the BEST sandwiches?

Who would do such a thing?

And while we're here: Would anyone care to buy some amazing sandwiches?

It's tiny pieces of dried up food that is stuck to your flatware that you don't notice when putting it away, that falls off eventually. It comes out of the dishwasher that way. Most people don't inspect each item as they put it away, so you are just not seeing it.

If you look closely at the "crumbs" you will realize it's dried up food debris.
