How do CM's feel about point rentals?

For our upcoming trip we paid for points of an owner (reservation is in our names) Just how common is that? Will it be weird that we aren't owners? I have stayed at OKW making reservations through CRO but now I feel a little awkward. At check-in do they do anything differently for point rental reservations compared to people who aren't owners? (Hope this makes sense.....)

From my understanding, The CM who checks you in does not even know who the points belong too. They will consider you to be the member. Last April I was staying at the Boardwalk and when my friend who was "renting" another reservation from me could not be found, I inquired at the desk that he was staying on my points and if he had arrived yet and the CM told me tell could not tell who the points belonged too, only that it was a points reservation. Hope that is not confusing....

I have had family members check in using my points with a reservation I made for them and they have had nothing but wonderful things to say about the CM's and DVC in general.

Lets face it, a lot of renters may buy DVC and Disney wants them to be treated well.

When I have "rented" (or usually given) points to family members and friends so that they could join us on vacation, the CM's have given them "DVC Member" keys. That has meant that they could pool hop, get the discounts, etc. I don't think that CM's are able to distinguish beyond "point" or "cash" reservation. Should be a great deal for you.

Well we rented points back last Oct for our past Jan trip. We did this to check it out before buying in.

When we checked in, we were given the DVC discount on UPH passes and our cards had DVC Memebr on them. So the CM checking us in never knew wether we were members or not.

So don't be worried about being treated differently as they treat everyone the same (even if they knew if you rented points). There is nothing against renting points, so it is not like you are doing a bad thing (cheating the system or something like that) so there would be no reason for them to treat you differently. If anything (IMHO) they would be wise to treat renters even more special, so more people buy into DVC.

I just returned from a rented points stay (Sept. 8-10) and on the Res. Confirmation letter it does have the members name and my name. When I checked in I gave the CM the letter and she checked me in with no questions as to how I got the Res. she also gave me the card with DVC Member on it. I can't see any problem when you check in. Enjoy!

The guides generally know when someone else stays on your points. I'm not sure the tip off but I know I've gotten several letters from my guide about different people, tours they've done, copies of letters to them from DVC.

According to our documentation, the owners are supposed to notify Member Service if they rent points and renter are not supposed to get DVC Member on their cards. Thus, renters are not supposed to get the DVC members discounts. However, guests of the owners are entitled to the member discounts.

True but MS usually doesn't note it anywhere and renters basically always have member on their card anyway.

What discounts do DVC members receive? I've done Disney Club, AAA, Annual passholder and who remembers what else but never been that impressed at any discounts. Maybe DVC members get something really cool?

Members get a few restaraunt discount, usually 10%. The current restarant list is about as long as it's ever been. The only pass discount is 10% off UMP. Also a few discounts over time at places like the mini golf, regular golf, Richard Petty's, DQ. There's a discount on many of the WDW tours and special programs.

Small discounts here and there at restaurants are nice. What has really saved us money is the golf discount card. We have a foursome most times (two of us and two kids, so we get the whole bill!). We first bought the card ($80 or so?) after I had paid regular greens fees for the two of us on a spring morning (we were at WDW for a convention - bit of a boondoggle, but those were the days!). I asked the pro shop guy what the fee would be if we had the DVC discount card, and it turned out that I bought the card, paid for greens fees and received $50 back versus the greens fees I had originally paid that day. So, the card more than paid for itself in just one round for two of us. All the savings during our family vacation were an added bonus. The DVC golf discount is better than the DC or AP golf discounts, or any others that I have found for out of state residents. That said, I can't remember if we needed our actual membership card to purchase the DVC golf program card, or just our room key. The card is valid for one year from date of purchase, no matter where you are staying. We got discounts with is in Hilton Head, too.

Everytime I spend money at WDW I ask the discount question. What is your best discount? I generally don't do things because there is a discount but am usually pleasantly surprised with the fact that a lot of places have some kind of discount in place...... Am Ex, Disney Club, DVC etc....
