How do AP rates work?

I'm probably going to book for Oct 2007 using the AAA discount, but I'm considering getting an AP to get an even better rate on the room when it gets closer to my departure time. From what I gather, the pass needs to be activated before you check in. Can you buy the pass online, request the rate change, activate the pass when you get there, then check in? Or do I wait until I activate the pass to request the AP rate?

You can just call and request the AP rate be applied to your room only reservation. You do not even need to have the AP at that point. You just need it before you check in. I ordered mine online last week, but applied the AP rate about 2 months ago. WDW will send me a voucher, which must be activated any park. I've read conflicting reports about what the resort requires to see when you check in to keep the discounted rate. Some have written that they must see an activated AP; others have said you can check in with the voucher. I guess I'll find out in 23 DAYS !!!!

Thank you! I'm surprised Disney takes your word on this, but I guess they can always charge you more if you show up without an AP.

That is EXACTLY what they'll do if you don't have the voucher/AP pass when you check-in.
