How do add-ons work if your initial purchase was through resale?

I've been looking at DVC for some time, and trying to come up with a financially responsible way for our family to join...DH, DS9 and myself. I homeschool our son, so we can visit during the less expensive seasons...but it also means we are a one modest-income household who's one indulgence is an annual trip to WDW.

The best I've come up with so far:
Buy 65 points (for use in May) at VWL (very much our favorite), which would be about $5,000 via resale. That would give us an annual 5 nt. stay (weeknights) and we would probably stay at a MOD the weekend nights.

If at sometime we were able to add on, how exactly would you do it in the above situation?

Thanks very much!

I bought a VWL resale and then did an add-on directly with Disney for 37 points at VWL. It was cheaper to do an add-on directly because of the small number of points and avoiding closing costs.

There was no problem at all with the add on at all. Once you're a DVC member, your a member, regardless of how you got there.

You'll have to be fairly lucky to find a resale that small at VWL, but they do come up occasionally - I think it might be that a 50 pointer would be the most likely to come up. But once you are a member, you can add on any number of points you wish, with a minimum of 25, directly from Disney. Or you could, of course, add on another resale if you found one to your liking. A 25 point contract from Disney would have to be paid in cash, but a 50 point one could be financed. Good luck with your decision - you won't regret becoming a DVC member!!!!
