How difficult????

My DH and I just purchased at BLT. Yet our first trip we're taking my parents (to pay back for all those free trips they've given us over the years!) and they want to stay at BCV or BWV...how difficult is it really to get reservations 7 months in advanced?

Depends on when you want to go. WDW slow times of the year do not always equal a slow time for DVC.

If you plan to go during the food and wine festival or during December or Spring break you may have more trouble than any other time of year.

Many DVC Member make reservations at their home resorts first at the 11 month mark. And then at 7 months call MS to see if they can switch to another resort. That way you still have a reservation.

Many have gotten reservations at BCV at the 7 month, but like katiegel says availability will depend on when you want to go.

The reservation availability thread on this forum indicates that booking 7 months out at BWV or BCV should not be a problem. Anyone know how accurate that thread is? I am also hoping to book BCV 7 months out for Aug 2010.

Thanks for the responses. We are planning on going the 3rd week of November (11/14-11/20ish)...with the points I have we don't have enough to book what we would like at BLT (1 bdrm and a 2bdrm) which is why I was going to wait...any suggestions?? Sorry I'm new at this!

I am new at this as well and still havent made my first reservation yet! BUT - I would probably use your points to at least book the 2 bedroom or 2 1 bedrooms at BLT so that you have SOMETHING...or book for 5 instead of 7 nights until you hit the point total you are aiming for...again, just so you have SOMETHING...then you can try to switch at the 7 month mark!

I wouldn't rely on it. It's only based on a few people who take the time to report to it.

BCV should not be a problem for August.

Nope. Call at the beging of your 7 month window and check to see if they have the rooms you need. Then cancel your BLT reservation and rebook the BCV one. A word of warning: some have reported that after checking to see if the rooms were avaible, they lost the rooms in the time it took to cancel one reservation and try to book the other.

This thread is a very small segment of DVC members reporting their experiences. It should not be taken as indicative of resort availability.

The weeks before and after a major holiday (in this case Thanksgiving) will be very difficult to obtain at the 7 month mark. I would make an alternative reservation as soon as possible. Personally, I would jump at the chance to spend time at BLT!

BLT Standard view is almost identical to BCV points. I would book that to have something reserved and then try and move the reservation at 7 months. I think you'll have a decent chance at that time of the year.

I look at that thread as better reporting what was definitely unavailable when a member called rather than for availablity. Of course even the unavailable isn't really definite b/c cancellations can happen but it can be helpful when you're trying to make a plan and decide what back-ups you need to have in mind before calling.

That board is only good to find out what is NOT available, not what IS available. The DVC members on the DIS and those that post on that Board are only a very small percentage of all the DVC members.

I just had to change two reservations. My home is OKW and I was able to change to Kidani Village for 9 nights in May (I checked BLT, BCV and BWV and they were also available). I switched the other to 7 nights at BCV over the 4th of July (I know, verry hot). Both were for 1 bedroom villas.

I do think it might be more difficult for the dates you want and I would do as the others advised - book your home resort and try to change at 7 months.

I was able to get a studio for the Easter break week at BWV at just under 7 months.

I had a trip planned for May of 2009 and had to cancel before my 30 day window. Several weeks after we canceled we decided to go in Sept-Oct during the first week of F&W, when I called to make my reservations (probably 4-5 mos out) I had my choice of weeks at BWV, but I'm guessing that was the economy and probably not normal for most years, however I bet it would be possible for next year. I just hope it is for 2011 cause that's when we plan to make our next reservation at BCV during F&W.
