How difficult is it to book a villa at WL for non-DVC members?

We aren't members of DVC but would really like to book a villa in early December at WL. I called Disney reservations yesterday and none were available, but they told me that some would probably become available about 11 months out. Has anyone been able to do this? If so, are there better ways to get a reservation at that time?

Also, I read somewhere that there are actual suites in WL that are not part of DVC. We don't need a kitchen, just a couple of bedrooms (have three kids).

Thanks.

Have you considered renting points from a DVC member? They can get the reservation for you earlier if the villa is available. There's a board on this site dedicated to that practice. Scroll down to the bottom of this screen and click on the Forum Jump pull-down menu. Choose the DVC - Rent/Trade board and click Go.

Make sure you read the POSTING RULES: REQUIRED READING** - Rent/Trade Board Posting Rules & FAQ's post first. It's a sticky at the top.

Delete/ignore double post. Not sure why this is happening lately?:confused3

Check back closer to time, say 10-11 months out. If nothing is showing up, keep checking back. We booked a villa at WL last January with no problem. I'm thinking we booked it in October or November. This year, we booked a villa at another resort when the 08 rates were announced (when was that, anyway?). We booked at least 7 months in advance. I believe Disney can't or doesn't offer the villas to non-DVC members until the members have had a chance to book (which I think is 11 months out, but I could be wrong).

We have looked into renting points as suggested above, but are more comfortable booking through CRO. There are several reasons for this, and it is largely up to personal choice. I'm pretty risk averse, so the renting thing scares me a bit. It appears as though the great majority of points-renting-transactions go off without a hitch, but with my luck, I'd be in that tiny group of people who end up paying money and getting zippo. We also like the daily housekeeping, which you don't get when you rent points. Also, I got a great deal this year by watching these boards and catching a great offer when it was announced, so even though I would have saved SOME $$$ by renting points, it wasn't so much that it was worth the risk (however small) to me. If I were facing paying rack rate, the risk would become more palatable to me.

Long story short - I don't think VWL are hard to book at all. You just have to be in the right time window. Oh, and we LOVED staying there. We thought we just wanted the extra room as well, but what shocked us the most was how much we used the washer and dryer (EVERY SINGLE DAY!). We used the kitchen a LITTLE, but the washer and dryer were a fantastic amenity. And the WL is just amazing. We're staying at a Beach Club Villa this year, and I'm a little worried it won't live up to our amazing experience at WL. Good luck!

the only villa that CRO gets is the 3 to 5% that it owns (disney) and any exchanges that members do.

now at 60 days before hand this changes.

any and all unused villa go to CRO to rent for cash.

so I would check each and every month (maybe twice a month) and know at 60 days you will probably get one. If you haven't got one already.

would also look into renting one. just remember that Fri and Sat are EXPENSIVE for renting points.

example

OKW (adventure -off season) 2-bedroom is 22 points Sun-thur (leaving on fri)
per night

but Fri or Sat it is 54 points per night

You can stay sun-thurs for 110 points or just fri & sat for 108 points.

Thanks for all the replies. It's amazing how much you can learn here.
