We were debating buying the DDP on our next trip, which made us think about something that came up on our last trip. Most of the time, everyone at the table was on the plan and that number of people was same as noted on KTTW used for payment. But on two occasions we had an extra person and the server charged OOP for the least expensive meal, without asking us who was or was not actually on the plan. Is that typical?
I know that I've read that there is a big deal about only being able to charge to the DDP at one meal the number of people on the plan, not the number of credits remaining (e.g., if you have 2 adults listed you can't use credits for 4 people, even if you have that many credits remaining overall.)
We didn't really notice the first time it happened until after we left the restaurant. The second time we did notice and told the server but he told us not to worry about it. (The price difference was minimal.) Since they really can't determine which members of the party are on the plan do they just go with charging to the DDP the more expensive meals? It made me a little uncomfortable, but since I was also not thrilled at the automatic 18% gratuity for all OOP purchases I wasn't going to debate the matter with anyone.
I guess it balances out that they use a credit for a meal, but we thought it was a little strange.
