How did you meet your OH?

What a lovely thread, so many romantic stories.

DH and I met at a mutual friend's house. I had just escaped from a very bad marriage and had no intention of ever making the same mistake again but he was very patient and very persistant, despite many problems with my ex, and within six months we were married.

We'll have been married 22 years this coming May and he is my soul mate. We have three daughters and I truly hope that they all meet someone as loving and caring as their Dad.

How lovely.:goodvibes I nearly cried at this.

It was a typical college night in 2001, instead of doing coursework i was chatting to my friends on MSN. I had joined a group dedicated to the welsh!
Every night i would chat to this guy called PJ ... it didn't take long for me to develop feelings for him.
I was 16 at the time, very naive and always went for looks! He was 25, had a child from a previous relationship and was definitely not my type! I went for "pretty boys"! I was disappointed to say the least when i saw his photo but we continued speaking on a daily basis.

I felt a real connection and we had arranged to meet up after a few months of chatting ... i was a bit worried as you hear all the horror stories in the press!
We arranged to meet up in town on a night out with mates.
I was dancing with my friends in a nightclub and i could feel someone staring at me ... i knew it was him but i was too nervous to look over my shoulder! Eventually i got the courage to go over to him ... we kissed and the rest you could say was history!

Most of my family were very supportive but my Dad and his family cut all ties with me and were horrified that i was dating a man 9 years older and didn't like the fact he had a child.

I didn't live with my parents and within a month of meeting I moved in with Phil and eight years later we are happily married with 3 boys.

I believe we were meant to be, we have been through a lot and its not all been plain sailing but i wouldn't have it any other way

Such a nice happy thread. I cant get over how many folks have been together from such a young age.

Lovely stories everyone. :lovestruc

I met hubby when I got a saturday job in a restaurant whilst I was at college full time, I was 16 & he was 17, he worked during the week though so I only saw him a few times as our shifts never seemed to be the same. I liked him immediately but I didn't think he liked me so I decided to play it cool as one of the girls I worked with also liked him. Eventually I set them up to go out for a drink!!! :faint:

However thankfully that didn't work out as dh only agreed as he thought I was going too. DH was the supervisor and organised all the shift rotas and suddenly he started to appear on all of my shifts and we flirted alot, then a mutual friend was having a 21st birthday party on 31st October (also Halloween, to this day dh still says he thought I was wearing a scary mask :lmao: ) & we were both going. We went seperately with our other friends but we were both being really coy all night & kept catching each other staring at one another & then quickly looking away. We didn't talk until the end of the night when dh asked me if I wanted a lift home with one of his friends who was driving. Dh had the keys so we went and got in the car, whilst waiting for his friend we just started kissing......the rest as they say is history!!!!

Within 9 months we were engaged and then it took 9 years for us to finally get married, but that was only as neither of us were particularly keen on a big white church wedding (due to family complications) so in the end we opted to take some of our family to the Bahamas and got married there in 2001. In total we have been together 18 years this year.

I have been with dh longer than i've been without him.....and I know we will always be together, he is my world. :cloud9:

What lovely stories, really heart warming.

I ended up marrying one of the bosses at my work but he wasn't my direct boss, he kept asking me to sort the problems on his computer (thinking back some of them weren't problems just excuses). Bit of flirting going on and we both had had really unhappy first marriages and when we got talking we discovered we had so much in common. We kept it very quiet from work people and we got a bit of stick when it all came out but by the time we were so serious about each other we knew we would get married so hearing some catty people at work saying "it will never last" was just ignored.

I have a daughter from my first marriage but her and my hubbie get on so well and she even buys him cards with Dad on it. They are more closer than her and her own dad.

Nearly six years of marriage later we are as happy as could be and are soulmates. We often wonder what it would have been like to have met up when we were younger.

lovely stories, I've only been with my other half for just over a year, we met through an internet dating site, not romantic at all, but we are definitely made for each other

My and Dave met at a friends house.

I used to go out every Friday Saturday and Monday night (student night) and would be the one dragging all my friends along when they didnt feel like going out.

My friend and I went on a bit of a pub crawl and it was dead every where wasnt looking like it was going to be a very good night an old school friend rang and said he was having a gathering of a few friends were we interested in coming round so we went.

We hadn't been there long and Dave turned up and I was like WOW I had been treated really bad by my first boyfriend and never thought I would even be interested in any one for along time but there was just something about Dave.

My friend and I left but I couldn't stop thinking about Dave. My firend said to add him on Facebook or something but I didnt want to seem like a stalker

Two weeks later my friend was having a few friends round and she told me to invite my friend from school and Dave I did. We talked found out Dave's birthday was the day after mine and it all went from there really we went on our first date the Friday after to the cinema and went out again that Saturday and spent all Sunday.

Here we are Engaged living in our first home together that we bought last May and planning a wedding

I too used to work with my Husband. he used to just work Saturday nights and as i mainly did the early shifts on Saturdays, i didnt really work much with him until he left uni and worked the summer hols at the restaurant.
All i really remember about him is he had a huge crush for many years with someone else who worked at the Restaurant. we both went to a mutual friends party who we worked with. My husband who never drunk, had a drink. i think to pluck up the courage to ask this other girl out :rotfl2:
anyway he was a bit worse for wear, he was with other friends but i just checked he was ok.
back at work, we got on well and made each other laugh a lot.
(he'd gone off the other girl as he saw she smoked at the party- a major no no)
think it took us while of being friendly until he got the courage to ask me out- we were both really really shy. :cutie:
we went on a date together, that was over 15 years ago. we got married 5years ago at Walt Disney World and couldnt be happier.xx :cloud9:

What a great thread :thumbsup2

Back in December 1986, I organised a Crimbo 'do' to the Dome in Birmingham. I used to work with hubby's friend and he brought him along. I didn't notice him at the party, but I sat next to him on the coach on the way home, so I could give a lad on the other side of the aisle a Crimbo kiss :rotfl2:

We chatted, then he came to our works Christmas party and we started going out on the Christmas Eve

3 months later we were engaged, another 3 months later we moved in, then got married the following year .. I can't believe we've been married for over 20 years :faint:

What lovely stories you all have, I've been sitting here in tears. I've just been saying to my husband that we don't have a romantic story. :rotfl:

I met my hubby when I was 17, I had been out with a big group of friends from school, but had just been barred from a pub for having no ID, the whole group were chucked out, anyway my friend and I thought it would be a good idea to hide in the toilet until the others had left so that we might be able to stay. I had been due to go to a party at a friend's house and thus wouldn't have needed to get home. Upon telling my friend Pam this, she said don't worry, we will skip the party, and her boyfriend would come and pick us up and take us home- no worries I thought and off we went to the toilets to hide out for a while.

Lo and behold when we emerged from the bathroom the barmaid caught us, turfed us out on the street, and Pam had rung her boyfried who said he wouldn't give us a lift. :( This meant that I had to phone home at about 1am, get my parents out of bed, and not only ask my mum to come and get me, but also had to admit that I was not at a party but out in town. :(

Pam and I were standing outside this pub waiting for our lifts (she was getting a seperate lift because we'd fallen out over the whole thing) these guys came over to talk to us, and the one that was chatting me up was the most horrible sleazy guy and was really scaring me, to get away from him I started chatting to his very shy friend, who was just standing back obviously embarrassed by his friend (this was my hubby, the shy one :) ) I was only really interested in talking to Craig for that little while, so that his mate would keep away, soon enough my mum turned up to collect me, and I was still annoyed with Pam so left her with these guys. I never expected to see Craig again, but by way of revenge Pam gave him my number. He then proceeded to stalk me for a few months, begging for a date, I wasn't keen, but eventually I agreed to go on a date with him in the December, we'd met in September. I went on one date to the cinema (to see Zoolander- worst film ever) he didn't pay me in!!! ( I still give him stick for it after all these years) and he didn't even try to put his arm round me, so all in all I thought the date was a total disaster, and had no intention of seeing him again. He turned up a few days later having bought me a CD I'd mentioned so I decided to give him a chance.

We've now been together for more than 8 years, we're married and have a daughter aged 1 and another baby due in May, it definately wasn't love at first sight (well not for me, but he says it was for him) but I can honestly say that I truly believe that he is the other half of me, I have been through so much in the past few years, and he's always been there for me, I know he would do anything for me, as I would for him. The thing I love most about him is that he is a fantastic father, and I feel truly blessed to have found someone who is such a fantastic husband and father, he may annoy me a lot, as I am sure I do him, but I can put my hand on my heart and say that we will still be together in 50 years time, we've come through a lot already and are at the other side stronger, so I know there is nothing that will break us.

Hi there,

I have no other half yet but I am taking steps to finding the right one. :) I know someday I'll be able to find him and I know, you too! I've been into dating for quite some time now and I've been reading tips on how to find the perfect one. On the other hand, I am offering help to those who need advices as well. Why don't you go and try dating? It's going to be fun coz you will be able to meet different people. You'll see that people have different attitudes and you'll just have to deal with them.

Well, if you need anything - I'll be here. I believe with my years of experience in dating, I am pretty sure I can help you out. ;)

I would have been disappointed if you had met hubby at any other time of year.:rotfl:

I was just thinking that ;)

I met DH just after Christmas :goodvibes We met online before people actually did that. :rotfl: I was chatting with a friend in Canada and I got a random message up from someone and ignored it. Within a few minutes I got another one again and decided to answer it, not sure why really. He had just bought a new computer for his daughter and was trying it out with a bit of help from his best friend. I didn't believe it when he said it was his first time online (even though it was!) We spoke for a couple of hours on the computer then he rang me and we talked for 8 hours, pretty much all night! And I just knew and so did he :goodvibes

We met up for our first date a week later as Phil was still stationed at RAF Lyneham and I was in London. Well I call it a date, Phil calls it the engagement :lmao: We dated for about 3 weeks and he introduced me to his family on our 4th date and proposed that weekend. We got married exactly 9weeks later and we've been married for almost 9 years now and I absolutely adore him still, best impulsive decision I ever made ;)

Good heavens, Eloise, that's even quicker than me and my DH!!! I married the boss. We both worked at Kellogg's in Manchester, first date to marriage was less than 6 months. We are now in our 22nd year - who said it wouldn't last???!!!

Pam

I met DH coming up on 7 years ago next next week. (Wow time flies). I had gone to a local club/bar for a baby shower for my cousin's gf, and afterwards my mom and I wandered downstairs into the bar area to get my step-dad. The football game was on at the time and being a man, my step-dad decided he wanted to stay for the rest of the game. A few other friends of ours knew DH who was sitting alone and a small table having a drink and so they pulled up a couple of tables and we all sat around next to him, me being directly next to him. I mentioned to my mom that since the Raiders were playing, I could sit down and have a beer. DH's response was..."You like the Raiders?" and that was pretty much it. The rest of the game we sat there and talked. He interrogated me and finally asked me for my phone number and by the end of the evening we had made plans to have dinner a few days later on his night off. Before he left that night, he stopped to say good-bye and actually kissed me. To say the least I still remember that kiss. :lovestruc

The day of our official date, we came to find out that our families had known each other for years and my step-dad's mother and DH's grandmother were good friends. DH's Aunt was even in my step-dad's sisters wedding, they were like the best of friends...For sure we had to have seen each other at the club on occasion because I used to come down from College just for Karaoke and he used to sing every now and then too, or hang out and play pool, which I used to do with my cousins. But for some reason it was fate for us to meet that one specific night, and no other.

Now here we are, married 2 years and 7 days away from being together a total of 7 years...and I couldn't ask for a better friend, lover and man in all my life.:cloud9:

I love these stories!:lovestruc

I feel a bit bad for chipping mine in, since we aren't married but...

We met when I was 14 and he was 15, my sister was really into volunteering and met my to-be boyfriend through that. He came over one night with a big group for a social at our house. I remember I was standing on the stairs in my school uniform, and as soon as I saw him I ran upstairs and spent ages choosing an outfit! I thought he was beyond gorgeous! I then sat on the stairs for ages too scared to go in, until my sister dragged me in. I remember being too scared to talk to him because he was in the year above!!

Anyway, about 6 months later I got the courage to join my sister in volunteering! (I wonder why eh? ;)) So I start flirting with him, treading on his toes, hitting him over the head with empty boxes, generally pulling out all the teenage stops! So he texts my sister and a mutual friend from volunteering, asking if he should ask me out. My sister let him know that I had fancied him for at least a year, and in the October before my 16th birthday he asked me out! We were both stupidly nervous, and had our first date at my house watching movies, and he then invited me to the local fireworks.

We saw each other now and again, mostly volunteering until my 16th birthday, when he gave me the necklace I wear almost every day, and we had our first kiss! (Always start early with jewellery equals reward!)

That was five and a bit years ago, and although we still having to do long distance, we have never been closer!:lovestruc
