Apologies if there has already been a thread like this but despite being happily single right now, I am also a hopeless romantic and thought it would be nice to hear peoples anecdotes about meeting their OH. I'm also suffering from the January Blues and thought some happy stories might be cheery.

So, how did you meet? How did you know they were "the one" for you?

P.S it doesn't have to be all lovey dovey either, the funnier the better!

I met DH in my local pub, the exact same pub where my Mum met my Dad 20+ years before (although that didn't work out too well). I have to be honest and say I didn't really fancy him when I first met him but I arranged to meet him again anyway. When he turned up for our 'date' a couple of days later, he was wearing a Coventry City football shirt and massive owl glasses (think Deirdre Barlow on a man) and I nearly walked out there and then. However, he grew on me (and, fortunately, wore contact lenses most of the time from then on ;)) and I can honestly say now that meeting Gary was the very best thing that has ever happened to me

me and bev met on a internet dating site we wear both not having very mutch luck met for 1/2 hr coffee that lasted 4hr.
i proposed to her while she was driving on the A1, not to good idea as all i can remember about that is me scream "please get hold of stearing wheel" as we headed toward the central crash barrier.
and after 1 year together we wear engaged, 18 months moved into are new home together and hopefully this year married.

We met at work. I was a student nurse and he was one of the duty managers. We had to keep thing hush hush for a while until I had qualified as it would have been frowned upon, but here we are 17 years later...

Normally when we tell this tale people ask for the sick bucket - so I hope that isn't the case here :)

Mine and Elaines parents were all childhood friends/sweethearts who grew up and did everything together.
When my Mum was pregnant with me Elaine's Mum began to get broody - although she already had 4 of her own by that stage - and soon after I came into this world she was pregnant with Elaine.
Almost exactly 9 months to the day after I was born - and there is only 2 days in it - Elaine was here, and in my mind I have always believed that she was made for me

We are quite literally the boy and girl next door. We went through school together, in most of the same classes - even sitting next to each other in a couple of them - and when I joined the Army Elaine was the only one who continued writing to me when I was away.
Even though we got married at a young age (19) everyone we knew said it would last because they knew that we were friends long before we were a couple.
My Mum also has a photograph of Elaine and me - aged 6 - sat on her settee holding hands. It's pretty much been that way ever since.

So - who needs the bucket :lmao:

I met Dave at Cradley Heath speedway when i was 16 and he was 21, we were together for 4 years and have been married for 25 years this year.

Lovely story!!!!

I met my DH when I was working in a pie factory as an 18 year old student...how romantic. I was fancied by two men (yes, I am a stunner:lmao:) and I asked my friend to choose which man I should go on a date with (yes I was that shallow:scared1:)...she chose DH.

I told him on our first date that I didn't want a serious relationship and that I would only see him during the week as I liked to go out with my mates at the weekend. He still reminds me of that now.:rotfl: We have been together for 21 years this year and have 3 children. I still don't want a serious relationship.;)

kenny & Elaine you do know that you ahve just stole the thread with that story dont you ???

I was pretty much stalked by Wayne he worked at the sam place as my dad and I always went to my dads place of work for a lift home. After a few weeks I was told that Wayne fancied me he was soooooo shy not my type at all - I like the big brash bloke that I had to fight for the lime light not the bloke in the corner who was too shy to even speak.
I have to say I was atotal cow when I found out he wanted to ask me outand made it really hard for him - i always took him Chocolate or a drink just to make him talk to me.
Well one day he was on in his own in the office at work and my dad had gone home early so I forced him to talk to me and 3 hours later I said i really needed to ring home to get a lift from my dad!! I went home smiling completly confused how could I fall for him ????
Really the rest is history he finally plucked up the courage to phone and ask me out we started dating in September we had moved in together in October and I was pregnant with our first child in the November. 12 years later he is still the only person I can talk to for hours and our wedding last year was the most emotional day of my life - I really do say it was love as soon as we spoke x x x

I first met Tony at a wedding when he was 6 and I was 2! One of his sisters married my Dad's cousin and there is a group wedding picture showing the bride and groom and bridesmaids at the front and one side next to the bridesmaids is Tony and the other side next to the bridesmaid is me (my Dad had this picture blown up and on display at our wedding!). We did not meet again until I was 19 and became a special constable, my Nan said to me that Doreens brother Tony was also a special at the same police station. To cut a long story short we met in the September and Tony proposed in November but my Dad insisted that we wait until my Birthday the following May to get engaged as he thought we were rushing things. We also had to have a long engagement for the same reason! but we are still together and have been married 24 years this May.

I met DH in a lift at work. We worked for the company upstairs and I enquired who he was with one of his colleagues and then he rang me. That was 24 years ago:scared1:

What great stories from you all.
It's really nice to see all the different ways that you have met, and fallen in love with, your partners :)

I was a bar maid and my DH used to come in for a drink after footy practice. I told the other bar maid that I really liked him and then she said she "used to babysit for him and laughed how he had his vest and pants laid out for the morning!" Well this just put me off and I went off the idea.

Months later I still fancied him and was laughing with the other bar maid about how much she had put me off when she questioned which one I was talking about. Turned out she'd been talking about his friend!

Eventually after weeks of chatting we saw each other on a night out and his friend shouted "for God's sake - when you gonna walk her home?" Well he did and that was 17 years ago in March. He worships the ground I walk on and treats me like a princess - he's the most amazing guy and I thank my lucky stars he chose me!

No, that's really nice.

My story is not so sweet. I was at a nightclub and was very drunk, I'm afraid. While dancing I bumped into this bloke, turned round and just started dancing with him. He was as drunk as me - perhaps if we'd been sober we would never have got together. Not exactly a pretty story to tell the children. :rotfl:

That was on 2nd January 22 years ago. We were living together by May that year. Ohmigosh 22 years is such a looooong time.

Well I first met my hubby at a Sci Fi convention in the May but as he lived over 200 miles away from me I wasn't looking for a long distance relationship, well in the august I met him again at a friends birthday party & well things kind of went from there we have now been together for 5 years & married for 2 years this april.
