First time for both my regular license and my CDL. The funny thing is, I didn't get my regular liscense until I was 21 because I was terrified to drive, and the whole concept of parallel was terrifying. Then fast forward to my 28th year and I'm taking a driving test which requires parallel parking a 72 passenger school bus. I think I could drive anything now.

First time. But by the time I was scheduled for behind-the-wheel, it was really close to my birthday. So the instructor took me alone instead of all of us that were assigned to go together and alternate driving. The first time I got in the car with him and he told me to back up, I asked...how do I do that? LOL! I guess he figured all kids tried it at some point prior to taking Driver's Ed. :teeth:

I passed the car test first time (1979), but had to take my motorcycle test twice (1969).

Well, I passed the actual driving test the first time, but I knocked down one of those darn cones in the parking test. There was a really mean DMV lady with me the first time. She never said "hello". She never cracked a smile. She only said "You Failed!", when I knocked that cone over. The next time I only had to do the cone thing and the DMV lady was as nice as can be. :D

It's been 17 years and I still see the mean lady at the DMV when I go there. A friend of mine who works there now says she hates riding with High School students and intimidates them.

I took my drivers test on a closed course during a blizzard. I was the last person they allowed to take the test that day. I had a hugh station wagon. I was so nervous at the start of the test I forgot to put my windshield wipers on. The driver tester was nice and said "I think you can see better if you put the wipers on. "
During parrell parking I just got the back end in and he said that was fine. He got out of the car and put all the parking cones in that section in the back of the station wagon to bring back to the building. I only got points off for bumping a curb slightly on a turn but it was so covered with snow I couldn't even see the curb.
On the way home I didn't drive. My slightly older sister did because of the bad road condiditons. We saw 4 cars that had skidded off the road into ditches. Fortunately we got home safe.

I passed the first time. I remember being a nervous wreck, but bound and determined to get my license.

Some of these stories are making me howl with laughter. :)

Well, it was a looooonnng time ago, 1960. But I do remember that when I was parkingup a hill, I was doing it wrong. I was turning wheels in instead of out, and was thinking ahead to when I was going to be on the other side of the hill and demonstrate parking on a down hill. The tester suggested I turn my wheels the other way, if I wanted to pass. I did, and I passed. :teeth: Only time I have ever had to use that parking technique was in San Francisco, and there they have signs all over the place, telling you the correct way.

I passed the first time.

One guy in our Driver's Ed class, did crash one of our cars into a guard rail.

I passed the written test the second time around. The State of Texas did not make me take a driving test though. However, I took a drivers ed course and during the course Texas had just reinstituted the fact that driving schools must teach parallel parking.

Guess what? I was the very first person that the driving school had to teach parallel parking to after it was reinistated! I'm grateful that I do know how to paralell park-otherwise I would have done a lot more walking at Baylor!
