How did you "get into camping"? was it the FT?

I grew up tent camping with my family. I am itching to go camping ALOT this summer with my DH and 3 DD's. However, DH is not as thrilled about tent camping as I am. :confused3All we have right now are tents!!!!! Our goal is to have a used pop up next year.:woohoo:
I fell in LOVE with FW 2 years ago.:lovestruc It was such a peaceful way to vacation at WDW!!!

I grew up camping with my parents and two brothers. My husband and I got our first camper about ten years ago, and we've been camping ever since. We got our camper because I couldn't bear the thought of going on vacation without my dachshunds. Now I have everything I love with me! The only thing that could be better is if we could get to the Fort more often! :cloud9:

We got into camping after buying 4 wheelers back in 2003. We were going to Ocala Nat'l Forest 2-3 weekends a month and saw toy haulers at the campground where we parked. A friend called one weekend we were going and said his buddy had a toy hauler and we could stay with him. It's 2.5 hours to get to the woods so being able to spend 2 days was cool.

I left Sunday and stopped to get an RV Trader because I really wanted a toy hauler. I was at the dealer Monday afternoon to just look and ended up buying a Tailgator. I was hooked from just that one night.

A friend who knew we liked Disney said, when you gonna book a site at FW? I had forgotten camping as a kid with my uncle back in the 80's at the fort. I got on the phone and got a site for Thanksgiving Weekend and we've now made that a tradition to go then.

DH and FIL are tractor pullers and there wasn't enough room in the living quarters of of the pulling trailer for all of us, so we borrowed a friends camper and took it to a pull. We decided we liked having our own place to stay and bought our first TT in the fall of 2004, traded up to a F'r the next year and have been to the Fort 3 times and will head down again in November. We like having our own stuff and the fact that the kids can run and play and do things other than sit in front of the TV all the time. We enjoy the people we meet too!

Me and my then girlfriend now wife started out tent camping our first trip was to bass river a state owned campground in south Jersey it had no electric, water or sewer they had water every few sites so you could fill a jug they also had bath houses for pay showers and restroom all went well during our first day til that night when a monsoon rain storm came through now i know why they call it bass river i thought our tent was going to float away we threw it all in the back of my truck and ended up spending the night in a cabin these are not like disney they were just a open room no electric or anything not a good first experience but since then we have bought 2 travel trailers and have been to many places from mass to disney and many in between disney wasn't the first place or even the reason for me to start but once you get a taste of disney it's hard not to fall in love with it

I've been camping my whole life - but my wife hates it - with the kids gone now (for many years) I tend to go by myself a lot unless I meet them someplace. Always been a tenter except for a few years with a pop up. I still want to do a section of the AT - maybe after I retire. It's all about the time. For years with a full-time job and National Guard there just wasn't enough - especially with 3 kids - 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer my ***! A lot more time went into it than that and my job has always taken at least 12 hous a day, 5 days a week - now I leave home at 6:30am and get home at 6:00PM so it's a little better. Finding time has always been a challenge.

OK - enough of my rant......

ETA - to anser the question, I was camping long before the fort even existed - I didn't even get off Active Duty until 1972.
