How did last week's weather & crowds compare to August?

We went to Disney the 1st week of Oct to avoid crowds & bad weather but we got both!

They say it was hotter, rainy -er, & more crowded than normal..my question is how much different was the first week of Oct from the last 2 weeks of August? My kids are getting to old to take out of school so we are looking at the last 2 weeks in August. I am thinking that what we experienced last week couldn't be any worse than late August??? I am thinking now we could totally handle it. Anyone who was there last week or late August have any comments? Thanks!

Crowds are quite manageable the last two weeks in August. Many schools start going back around the 15th.

The weather is MUCH hotter than early October though. August heat is relentless. When you wake up in the morning it's already an oven. Plus the chance of an afternoon cloudburst is about 150%.

Having said that....we love going in mid-late August! As you can see below, we've done it a whole bunch of times!

We have been to WDW the past two Augusts. In 2004 we went 8/19 - 8/29, in 2005 we were there 8/13 - 8/20.

I enjoyed this last August vacation more then in 2004. I thought 2004 was more crowded. I would go again in August as I have a high schooler now and I know what you mean about pulling him out of school.

I have been to WDW several times the beginning & middle of October and thought it was AWFUL. It is a MAJOR convention month and a golf turnament on property, kids with fall breaks..... I was always so surprised when people say that they didn't encounter crowds and long waits. We always have in October. Epcot WS has been a mob scene when we were there, MK was gridlock trying to leave after the fireworks, it was in the mid 90s one year and we were there during a hurricane in 1999 (I think). Ugh, I will take August any day. This August it only rained one day we were there - and that wasn't until late afternoon.

It is very hot and humid but the crowds are not bad. Crowds are what I do not like, so August is OK with me!

We went last week over Columbus day weekend and have also gone in August. Will never go in August again, it was just too hot. Last weeks heat was bad but nothing like the oppressing heat we felt in August, we just couldn't stay in the parks much after 11am. Had to come back in the parks after the sun went down. Was crowded both times we went, but with MNSSHP at least with it being a special event, there were no crowds on the 7th.
