How did a trip that start out so well end so bad??? Updated 8/17 post 173

Actually....I'm going to hell according to my in laws because I Baptized my children. You can imagine their "delight" (note sarcasm) when I sent my DD to Catholic school. We just really don't see eye to eye.
I swear - I think all inlaws are the same. My MIL absolutely hates my guts.

She gets mad at me when I try to discipline my child in front of her and tells me she's gonna spank ME. :sad2:

It's all an act. She wants others to think she loves her grandchild so much, yet she never visits (even though she's a mere fifteen minute drive from us).

Oh my gosh; I've been reading along and just wanted to say...I feel for you!!

LOL! I might have to look into one of those forms :)

That is exactly what I was thinking when I read ccgirls's last post about her in-laws. I just spent a weekend with my mom and between some of her actions and reading the trip report I am getting a little nervous.

Hugs to you ccgirl! I am so sorry to hear how tough your trip was. It was so nice to read your friends were still there and you were able to escape and see them. That must have really helped so much.

It really did help to see our friends. We begged them not to leave but that had to leave anyway. :headache:

subbing...
Glad to have you!

That will be in the next installment - I disciplined my child in front of her. Apparently, it is okay to bite. I missed that memo.

Thanks for reading!

:grouphug: for all of us dealing with "moms" & their never ending opinions.

This is great stuff.

Now, on with the show....

And quite a show it is!

I'm back!! :goodvibes I figured it was Friday so I would provide some reading enjoyment for the weekend. Plus, I can go out drinking and drink my troubles away. Just kidding. ;) I will probably have to break this out into two installments as I don't have a whole bunch of time and this was a long day. We told the in laws to call us when they got to MK as we had early morning reservations.

We had 8:15am ressies at Chef Mickey's. Luckily, I had looked into the transportation the previous night so we were going to take the bus to MK and walk to CR. It was early morning EMH at MK so the buses were running early. We left shortly after 7:15 and we had to wait a while for the bus but we got there right at 8:15am. We had our picture taken in our matching family vacation t-shirts. We were then seated within 10 minutes. Our table was right near the buffet. Our kids were disappointed they couldn't see the monorail. This place was HUGE. My kids absolutely ADORED the character interation here. The waitress was very nice. When I ordered apple juice for my DS2 she brought out 3 juice boxes so we could keep some for later. The buffet wasn't really explained to us. I didn't know there were blintzes (which I love) somewhere else along with the desserts. I only saw them when I was leaving and by then was full.

We then walked to MK. We were torn b/w the boat or monorail but ended up going with the monorail. The park didn't seem too crowded. We went right to Fantasyland. We were able to get on Peter pan and Winnie the Pooh. The kids also wanted to ride the carousel. Here is a great picture of them waiting for it as well as riding on it....

Here are some pics of Chef Mickey's...

You can't tell but my son's shirt is already filthy. Of course, this is the day I forgot their change of clothes.

Sorry..I kind of back tracked there. SO....I'm kind of seeing a theme here we are having the BEST time and going from ride to ride and wait a minute...no In Laws..hmm???

We head over to the mountains and the cell phone rings...they are HEREEEE...where are we? Tell them we are walking over to Thunder Mountain. Great, they want to go on the ride with DD; wait there. Okay...so we wait there and my DS falls asleep in carriage...we wait there and wait there...call FiL, MiL, SiL, BiL phones and no answer. Now my DD is saying we have been standing here for 30 minutes why can't I go on any rides....she's right. The line was only 20 minutes so I say to go ahead. 15 minutes later and they come. They are upset because now they have to wait for DD and DH. WHAT!!!!!! WE just waited 45 minutes for you and you are mad at us? To top it off they said they were late because they were watching some dancing parade. NICE!!! So, DH and DD come off and of course DNiece wants to go on now so I go on with them. Then it is time for Splash Mountain. My BiL and SiL tell us to take my niece because they want to go together. Ummm...okay. This girl is tall enough but she is a peanut; made me very nervous. So...we are going up the big hill. I am sitting behind her holding on to her shoulder (she sat with DD) and she says...I have never been on this ride before. Um....you have never been on this ride and neither parent wanted to come on with you? I just can't imagine missing my DD's reaction but it wasn't a surprise to me. They are just not keen at putting their children first.

So...we get off the ride and MiL and FiL are gone but told us to wait there for them. Here we go again. SiL and BiL go on ride while we watch their son. They got off the ride and still not MiL and FiL...call cell phones and no answer. Parade is about to start so I say to take the kids and I will wait for them. I waited and missed the whole parade. Then, I couldn't find anyone after because they decided to go on Pirates of the Caribbean. Afterall, they just didn't want to stand around waiting. Um....isn't that what I have been doing all day? I keep telling my DH how ridiculous it is we should just split up. MiL starts crying again how she wants to see all of her grandchildren's reactions. UUUGGGHHHH!!! :headache:

So, eventually I find them. I think we did IASW for a 2nd time. Me, DH, DD, DS had done it earlier in the day. It's now time for lunch. We ate at some gross place across from Pirates of the Caribbean. I forget what it was called. SiL pulls out snacks and juices. Now...I had asked her last night to get us juice boxes and snacks and I would pay her. She said they weren't going shopping yet. When I mentioned something she said, "Oh...I forgot". Oh..how convenient. :scared1: Maybe I should just forget you and go off on my own.

Ohhh...hate to leave you in suspense but I have to get going. Will pick this up as soon as possible. Believe it or not; it gets worse. We still have dinner at 1900 Park Fare!

OMG how can this get worse. I have to laugh tho because yesterday was my MIL birthday. DH had forgotten but I knew where she was having dinner last night with friends and arranged with a florist to deliver flowers to the restaurant and they had them on the table when she got there. She called DH last night to thank him for being so thoughtful.:rotfl2: He did tell her I did it but she never talked to me.:confused3

The first part of your trip sounded so wonderful am SOOO glad you had that since the rest....OMG your trip sounds just like my husband and son's first trip to the world with my ENTIRE family. Now understand the entire 11 months we were planning the trip we all agreed that we were just going to meet up at the set ADR that we have since we were a party of 13...yea so didn't happen..am not going to high jack your thread but yea been there done that have the painful permanent scar from it. :scared1: Swore to HUBBY and SON WE WILL NEVER do THAT again...

Can't wait to read the rest of your trip and too AM so GLAD you get to go back in Dec :)

Sounds like some of my relatives are related to yours. I was there in June with some relatives and told my DH never again. It was a nightmare.

This is why I won't travel with extended family. Luckily, I only have a MIL and she went to Universal and WDW once with us (she lives in Orlando) and was very helpful as our daughter was a baby. Still, my sisters and their husbands and kids and my step-mom went to WDW once and I didn't go. There was no way, they all have different travelling styles and don't plan for anything. I went with my step-mom, little brother and daughter about 2 years after that trip and my step-mom said we got so much more accomplished and this was during Spring Break!!

:eek:Thank you for reminding me that traveling with the Inlaws should be banned!:headache: I can only imagine that this trip would be like traveling with my Inlaws. I'm glad that the beginning of your trip started so well! At least you have some moments of wonderful in the middle of the craziness!

O...M...G....:scared1:

Why in the world does your MIL cry so much?! I'm sorry, but I was laughing out loud. I can just picture myself there with my inlaws, and frankly, you have scared the crap out of me. I really really really hope that you came to your senses and told them you needed some alone time. This is just craziness! And what is up with the parents not wanting to ride with their child on her first time on SM:confused3 My blood is boiling for you... IN LAWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am enjoying your TR!!! I can also relate to your in-law stories. I have many of my own stories, so it is nice to feel like I am the not the only one to experience this type of frustration!
Looking forward to the next installment!

I know it's hard to believe but it does get worse. Don't you love how we can do all the work but they get the credit? You would think I would be used to all of this by now.

We're so glad we are going back too. It's like a redemption trip. Just us...Ahhh...like heaven. :goodvibes

I'm beginning to think a lot of relatives are related. So glad I am not alone. :worship:

You think I would learn. This is my 3rd trip with them and each time it is horrible. This was by far the worst. I think I finally convinced my DH it is not good to travel with them.

How frustrating! I would have been fuming with all that waiting around.

Very frustrating. Yes, I fuming. Surprised they couldn't see the steam coming out of my ears.

You can't leave us hanging. Must... Hear... More... ;)

I need to let my blood stop boiling. Hoping to update today.

You poor thing......I feel so sorry for you. I'm sure December will be much better :goodvibes

Yes, December will be much better. We are so looking forward to it.

:eek:Thank you for reminding me that traveling with the Inlaws should be banned!:headache: I can only imagine that this trip would be like traveling with my Inlaws. I'm glad that the beginning of your trip started so well! At least you have some moments of wonderful in the middle of the craziness!

Absolutely should be banned.

There you are! Haven't seen you around here in a while. Hope you are enjoying your summer. I'm sure your trip will be better. Sounds like they are all up for splitting up and going their own thing once in a while. MiL is just a Pia. She had my DH when she was 16 so I think that is part of it. She just doesn't really know life without him. Yeah...I thought that was very odd that BiL and SiL didn't want to ride for the first time with their DD. I was pretty upset but she is used to that, unfortunately. They are the kind of parents that always put themselves first. Unfortunately, there was no alone time on this trip. Hence, the redemption trip in December....just us....ALONE!!! Believe me; my blood was at a constant boil. So looking forward to December you have no idea.

Glad you are enjoying it. I am going to write another update this week sometime. I just had to get my blood to cool down. :rotfl2: It helps to knwo you are not alone. :worship:

I swear, all MIL's are the same. And I think you are a better person than me. I would never have sent my MIL flowers! :rolleyes1

I enjoyed the last update, but I am so sorry that you had to spend a majority of your day waiting for people. It is so hard when you are trying to be thoughtful and polite, and there are others who could care less and have no respect for you or your time. At least you were able to have a magical morning with your family before the in-laws came into the picture! :goodvibes

You said it so eloquently. I really didn't appreciate wasting my time and my precious vacation time at that. We really did have a productive and fun time just us. December will be GREAT!

 I am shocked and speechless....and waiting for more. popcorn::

Thanks! Sometimes I think it is just me reading too much into things but by the posts I see I am in justified in feeling the way I do. If I don't post today I will do it in the morning.

Thanks again for reading everyone and sorry it's so slow!!!
