How "deluxe" are the DVC rooms?

We are DVC members, and our home is at the Beach Club Villas. Here are some pics of the 2 bedroom.

The reason for DVC is so you can feel more like you are at home. This is the reason for no mousekeeping on a daily basis. I bring my own coffee, shampoo and laundry soap so i can (heaven forbid) WASH MY OWN TOWELS!!!!! If you need someone to freshen up your room and replenish your coffee then DVC probably is not for you. If you are not high maintenance then it might be just want you want.

We do the same thing! We really like the home away from home feel. I don't mind doing laundry because it means I don't have to pack tons of clothes. I also don't mind having the daily mousekeeping because I don't have to worry about someone banging on the door wanting to clean up. However, we've found that if we need extra toiletries, towels, laundry soap, or trash that needs taken, all we have to do is let someone downstairs know on our way out to one of the parks.

Over the years my only DVC disappointment has been a OKW studio. It was small and dated.

The OKW studio was small (???) and dated???? It has to be the biggest studio of all. And it was prettier before they made the changes IMHO.

So at Bay Lake tower the Linens and Mattress are downgraded?

DVC is expensive to join right?? and they always say your getting the same as you would get in a Deluxe Resort

I agree with you, Deb! OKW has the largest DVC studio at WDW. I'm going to guess the new decor is going to make it look smaller though. All that dark stuff...

We decided to buy DVC pts at the country club style resorts of OKW and SSR because we wanted to feel like we where in our own home. When you own a vacation home there is a lot of work to maintain it. Disney takes care of everything so we have peace of mind. OKW and SSR are the best of both worlds. Each resort has it's own theme, which makes them unique. SSR has a very elegant decor, OKW has a casual decor.

I think the room amenties at DVC are very nice, better than some deluxes and only different in some areas such as pillow top matresses and linens.

The studio bathrooms are pretty much the same - or even not quite as good - as the Deluxe Disney bathrooms. When you start getting into a multi room unit, then its really not fair to compare unless you are comparing suites at Disney - and those bathrooms blow DVC out of the water.

Its been a while since I've been in a Disney Deluxe bathroom, but my DVC bathrooms have had broken tiles, drippy faucets and a little mold (understandable in Florida without daily cleaning) that I don't recall our Deluxe rooms having.

Disney towels in general are barely functional compared to luxury hotel chains.

We have always stayed in 2 bedroom DVC villas and I think they are very deluxe! I LOVED our two bedroom at BLT! The modern decor, the view, the three bathrooms! LOVED IT! As compared to the time I stayed in a regular CR room....BLT was far more deluxe to me!

Our golf course view at SSR was awesome and the room was gorgeous! I thought it was very deluxe as well! I loved soaking in the jacuzzi tub everynight!


Our 2 bedroom at Kidani was HUGE! and..deluxe!

I guess deluxe is in the eye of the beholder!

A couple of weeks ago we had a 2 bedroom and a studio at DVC and then a weekend at the Grand Floridian.

Our studio bathroom was hands down nicer than our bathroom at the GF. I am talking about the actual room with the toliet and tub. Our bath area at the GF was so small the door hit the toliet every time you tried to open it all the way.

Our studio bath was spotless and looked as good as new and our GF while clean looked old and tired. I know it varies from room to room but this was our recent observations.

We will be requesting extra Mousekeeping for our next trip. I do request additional Trash & Towel service, unless it's just me & DH. At least, it's available for a fee.

Thanks everyone for your responses. This really helps. While some seem to think that some DVC resorts don't quite match the quality of some of the deluxe resorts, DVC does have some other advantages. In any event, it is really important to get our expectations in order before we make a purchase. The bottom line for us is that the DVC resorts still seem really nice -- but just a little more "condo" living. If we ever want slightly more "deluxe," we may try to go to AKV concierge now and then.

I have been able to book AKV concierge (twice) at 7 months, but for only a couple of nights.

I would advise staying in a DVC before you decide to purchase. We love the EPCOT resorts, so it was either BWV or BCV for us.

The linens at BLT are far nicer than most other WDW resorts, including anything else on the monorail. The recent renovation at BC and BWI put them a notch above to as they have real duvets that aren't floral polyester.

I have stayed mostly in deluxe resorts in the past - YC and WL once and GF, BWI and BC multiple times. I've yet to stay in one that included a whirlpool tub like I get in my DVC rooms. I think BLT and AKV compare very favorably to deluxe resorts (even though I don't really care for AKV). SSR and VWL aren't quite as nice, though I'd rank VWL above SSR simply for the richness of theme. I'll be staying at BCV starting next week and I'm really looking forward to the resort in general, but I expect to be underwhelmed by the decor - I don't like how it looks in photos...but I'm not there for the decor; I'm there for the resort, the pool and the location.

Another thing - so maybe they aren't quite as nice as some deluxe resorts. But you know what a luxury is? Having a real couch to plop down on and relax rather than sitting on a bed or wooden chair. Or having a quiet spot in the private bedroom for one/some to rest while others are up and about in the living area. Or having a full size fridge to stock with snacks so that you have something if you get 2am munchies (or you want to save money by eating in). I could go on, but it's late and I should be sleeping!

I wouldn't know, I've never stayed at the Polynesian. But the Polynesian does still have (what I consider icky) polyester patterned bedspreads. BLT has all-white, cotton duvets and nice, soft sheets. See the bedding here http://allears.net/acc/blt/blt09b41.jpg

I haven't stayed at BLT, but Poly definitely has those polyester, scratchy like bedspreads (which doesn't bother me too much since I don't actually use it, but it's a fitting description). I don't remeber the sheets being anything special (no overly soft/silky but not scratchy). I remember the pillows being comfortable and plenty of them on each queen bed.

Yes. I stayed at the Poly Concierge earlier this year. I used to stay at Poly all the time prior to DVC. There is still a certain luxury feel to the Poly room, but overall I was a lot disappointed. The room was okay but I missed my kitchen. The bath was nice but a little too dark to me. The lagoon view had a tree blocking the castle (okay - I didn't chop it down - just had to go to the beach to see the view).

The lounge was crowded and messy, with few and boring offerrings - AK Lodge was much better.

The concierge staff were very nice.

Give me a BW view one bedroom and I'll stock my own fridge. The walk to the Poly room is long also and outside.

I did love riding the launches again and seeing the water parade.

BWV is home for me.

It really depends how much time you spend in the rooms etc. We're not in them that much but when we are like to have enough room to not bump into each other. Also while I'm up with the kids at night (b/c heaven forbid someone not get an ear infection/ the flu/ bad cold) I like to be able to watch tv and not disturb the others so a 2 BR is good for us.

After spending lots of time in other timeshare the BLT is a step above Westgate or Liki Tiki and the same as Orange Lake and some of the Hyatt Timeshares.
