how crowded is mnsshp mid-week, mid-october? I'm debating taking our kids (4, 2, and 2), which most likely won't happen, but I'm playing with the idea right now. are parades as crowded as a typical disney parade? or are the crowds lighter since its a hard-ticket event? what time would we need to find a good spot for the first parade? what about the fireworks?

Mid-week, less busy, mid-October a little busier because of Columbus weekend. However, DH and I have been to sold out parties before, and you still have walk-on rides all night.

I went on a monday or tuesday last year early to mid october. I was surprised at just how busy it actually was.

The parades were packed, you could hardly tell it was less then your typical crowd. Likewise with the fireworks. I cant recall how early we got a spopt for the parade, but for the first time through it was definitely on the early side, wanted to make sure I saw the headless horseman. The second time we just got of hung behind some shorter people and watched it again.

The fireworks...honestly dont recall when we got ready for that.

Rides will for the most part be walk-on but IMO the rides are more a distraction that night. There is so much going on, you can do the rides any time, but the MNSSHP events only happen a few times a year. I know I went on a few rides this year (and if I am able to take my nephew with me this year I have no doubt I'll be taking him on some) but if I had realized just how fast the 5 hours would fly by, I wouldnt have given the rides a second thought.

thanks everyone. are all the rides open? how are the busses to the resorts?

a few of the rides were closed. Jungle cruise was closed because that became a candy station. The ferry was closed, but it was under rehab, I understand they do ghost story cruises or something like that usually, so I am looking forward to that. I was staying at the contemporary so I walked over so I cant say how the buses were.
