How crazy are evening magic hours at MK on a Sunday night?

We're arriving at the ASSp on Saturday, Sept. 30, to take advantage of the free dining. :cool1: We're driving, so we won't get in until afternoon, so no parks that day. I kind of like to start every trip with a trip to MK, but am nervous that we'll be too tired Sunday morning to get up early enough to be at MK when we should be. I see that that they have late hours that night. I know MK is a zoo on Sundays, but does that continue on for the evening hours? If it will be terrible at night, maybe I'll try to get there at park opening, stay for a couple hours, and hit it another day. I welcome all opinions :thumbsup2

Thanks!

We're also arriving on a Sunday. We're planning on heading to the MK around 7 or 8 pm, so I'd like to know the answer to your question, too.

We're arriving on a Fri, but have FDP planned and want to go to MGM for DD3 to see Johnny & the Sprites. Usually hit MK first on arrival day, but Johnny may be more important. We could hit MK on Sat, but can't spend the day due to ADR at Cape May and possible offsite visiting. So, Sun will be CM dinner ADR, then hopefully it will be off to Spectro and EMH at MK. Plus, the sun will have gone down a bit by then!

Hi

Took my dd5 this past June. We were in the Park until 3 a.m. (We napped earlier :cheer2: )

It was great. We rode Buzz Lightyear 7times in a row :cool1: had to find the perfect picture to by :rotfl:

We rode everything in fantasyland without too much of a wait. I even rode Dumbo for the very first time in 20+ trips .

Fastpasses were gone for Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain, so we only rode BTM with about a 40 minute wait. We had great seats for the Parade.

We are going back in the spring with my parents, I'm planning to do the EMHs for MK.

It was also soooo much cooler at night. Limited food options after Midnight.

Hope this helps.

I didn't know you could still use fastpasses during EMH's that's good to know!

Its not the same every night.
Whether any given attraction will have FP during EMH totally depends on the ride managers for that EMH.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

IF the FP machines are operating during PM EMH, they "start again" at the beginning of the EMH.

Is Spectromagic & Wishes more crowded on EMHs? We will be at MK on Fri Aug 4th, but are staying off property so will not be doing EMH. I was also wondering if the mass exit to the parking lot will be less b/c so many are staying for EMH. Any ideas?

I can't seem to find out how LATE parks are open during Extra Magic. What time does Animal Kingdom close on Extra night? Is it always the same? Seems like could be 1, 2 or 3 hours late with no way of knowing for sure?

We have never used the EMH before because I didn't know about them so this year I made them a part of our ADRs to take advantage of the time. Since the "locals" will be back at school when we are there (8/20) it doesn't seem like it would be too crowded but we'll see. I am looking forward to the time! Less than one month before we leave:Pinkbounc .

EMH evenings are always 3 hours later than the closing of the park to the general public. Forinstance, if AK closes at 5 pm, then they are open until 8 to resort guests on EMH evenings.

so as far as the crowds are concerned I would expect it to be busy at least early in the evening. Most people arrive at Disney on Saturday or on Sunday. They usually like to get to MK first. We got there on a Saturday in January and it was quiet in the park when we first arrived (about 3 PM) but later it was absolutely packed. It will probably be the same on Sunday. Especially with EMH, the late arrivals will head over to MK.

and I'm going for the extra hours at MK on Sunday night. I think of it as bonus hours. None of the other parks will be open that long; so, what do you have to lose? With that said that's why the park is so crowded.

I think the extra magic hours work better at certain times of the year like summer. Not everyone wants to close a park at 3am; so, I can understand doing well at the park at the wee hours of summer.

On 9/30 the park will be open til midnight. Well, according to the summer schedule it's regular hours. Personally, I think I'll sleep better getting something done that day even if we mostly just walk around the park. You're bound to catch a few attractions; so, why not? Three hours crowded is better than zero hours with not going there. I get a kick out of just looking at the castle. It doesn't take much for me to be entertained. I love Disney. More hours are more hours. I'll be there!

Does someone have a direct link to where I can find out the EMH for August? TIA. :thumbsup2

NVM, found it!

I am in the same boat, we arrive in the afternoon on Sept. 2nd but that will be a no park day since we get in around 2:00pm and Sunday is MK's lat EMH. I will go but am afraid how busy it will be since the next day is Labor day and a lot of people will have that day off.

We are thinking of adding a day to our trip and if we do we thought about adding Sunday. The whole reason would be for the EMH at MK Sunday night. We will be arriving late in the day so I like the idea of being able to go to MK that evening. I'm still debating on it though and wonder if everyone else has the same idea as me. Sounds like it could be crowded.

go to www.disney.com and click on the calendar link. You can check each park for their regular hours about 6 months in advance. They will also show which dates are EMHs for that park. Click on the EMH link on the calendar and it will take to you a page that shows which parks have AM hours and which have PM hours as well as a list of what attractions are open during EMH

Yes it is. You show your room key to the CM's handing out wristbands.
