How Could This Happen???

i don't understand how his family could have gone all that time and not look for him. :confused3

That is truly sad..

It could happen. I have a DSIS40 who refuses anything to do with the rest of our family. My kids are the ONLY ones in the family. We have no contact. We try..SOmething could be wrong, GOD FORBID, we would not know....

We have only one life, and these situations are tremendously sad to me.:sad1:

Well, if the guy was estranged from his family and made no effort to have a relationship with them, then no one can be surprised that this happened. Apparently the guy didn't have any friends either that would wonder where he was. Some people are just loners like that.

Okay, but what was a potential homebuyer doing there?

Did he own the home? If so, was his daughter (or other relative) selling it off just because they hadn't heard from him?

Did he rent? So, then the landlord decided to sell without checking it out?

Sounds really weird. You would have thought the neighbors would have been smelling a certain odor around there.

I live not too far- and all evening our local news was doing teasers for this story without ever saying where the home was- until the 10pm news for which it wasn't the lead story-

My dh and I were suspecting that it was in one of the homes in Cameron or something- that was rented or something. There are a lot of people in this world who just don't have anyone- and if they didn't mention where they were evacuating or anything to neighbors most would assume they were gone and not worry about it.

It is a shame that it took this long before they found they guy though. Seems like someone would have checked something out before then.

About the odor- it could have been faint enough from the outside not to smell so much- and really if you are thinking a distance from the neighbors- probably no one but a few dogs/cats even noticed it.

On a similar story- I had an "across the street" neighbor who was elderly- all her family lived out of state and rarely came to visit- one of our other neighbors would take her to church and things and we all sort of "kept and eye out for her" well about a year or so before the storm she started really going crazy- she thought there were microscopic bats in foods and wouldn't eat and all this- the only people she would remotely trust were the neighbors who took her to church- and sometimes she wouldn't talk to them either. So one Sunday they go to get her for church and she doesn't answer the door- they just shrug it off at the time and try again later- no answer at the door. This goes on another day- of them calling and knocking and still no response- by the Wednesday the general consensus of the neighborhood was that no one has seen her out of the house since the Thursday before and that we should call the police. At first they didnt' want to come check it out but I have a friend whose husband is a detective so they did come and found her dead -probably for a week. Had these one set of neighbors not tried to take her to church each Sunday chances are she could have been in that house for much longer than she was before being found. I know her kids never checked on her and they actually were upset that the door frame was broken when they busted in the door to see about her...

I have a feeling the "homebuyer" is a realtor, or an investor. This is what I do for a living. I go into homes that are in foreclosure and this happens.

Thank goodness it hasn't happened to me, but I know of realtors who've come across dead bodies in homes before. More often it's pets though.

The payments don't get made and the lender has no idea that the person is dead. Freaks me out every single time I have to go inside and I'm the first one in. :scared1:

I suspect there's more to this story than what was reported in the news..
