Here's the story...
My husband decided to do the Triathalon in Disney World in Sept. and booked the trip. They have been to Disney many times and we have another trip booked for November. We thought it would be a great surprise for the kids but how do you contain your excitement?

How did you surprise your kids?

We are going to Disney in 3 weeks. I also have a trip planned in September for me and my DD8-(booked the bounceback last September). I couldn't get my husband to go back that soon!!!! I have not told my DD about the trip in Sept. It has been so hard to keep quiet!!! I'm going to pick her up from school early--(tell her she has an orthodontist appointment)--go to the airport and let her figure it out. I bought tickets for the Halloween party and have booked ADR's at her favorite restaurants. :) :)

Well I dont have kids but we took our 2 nieces for their first trip Oct 06 and we all kept it a secret for 5 months and then my sister blabbed to them. It was fun planning it with them once they found out but I would have rather surprised them.

We are giving them another trip for Xmas, we are going to take them in January when it is cooler and quieter and DH can get away for a few days. I will get them each a Dis tee or something Dis related because they love that stuff and then DH and I are going to make a DVD of us sending them on a treasure hunt for clues to these litle gifts and the for their last real gift is.... the last clue will be us in the car with a DISNEY OR BUST sign on the back and their final gift is the tickets for them. My friend is helping us film the DVD so I have to come up with clever little sayings and clues so they do not figure out the grand finale on the first clue!

I would give each kid a tee shirt that had " TEAM (your last name) " on the back and get each of your kids a pair of running shoes and with a note that reads "Can you catch Dad at the Triathalon?" and then they can guess that they get to go too!

It is so hard to keep a secret but I cannot wait to surprise them!

Will they be in school?

We met our kids at the bus stop and told them we were leaving that night for Disney World. They were surprised beyond belief. It was awsome.

Have fun!

Leigh

we're taking the kids in Jan. The last time we went we celebrated my oldest 2's bday 4th and 7th. now it's third child's 7th birthday Jan 26th. We leave on the 24th. The plan is to make tshirts up that say 'we're going to disney world RIGHT NOW" and wrap one up. The morning of our flight wake up the birthday to be girl and tell her we have a early birthday present to give her (camera rolling of course) Let her unwrap the shirt, read it and then wake up her sisters and brother :)

I don't think that idea will do you any good though LOL

This is my first time keeping the secret, and its killing me!
But I know my kids. I am taking them out of school, and if DD5 knew she was leaving for WDW after school, well, it wouldn't be a nice thing to do to her teacher!:lmao: So I am planning on telling them at the airport.
So, I have a change jar, and told them we can't go to WDW again until it is full. This gives us a chance to keep WDW in the conversation, so I'm not ruining the suprise if I let something slip about next time we go!

I am suprising DD in September.....my Mom had a shirt made for her. We are staying the night before we leave at a hotel by the Baltimore airport, and I'm going to tell her we are flying to NYC. :lmao: She has no clue where stuff is, everytime we go into the city she ask's if we are in Philly and can we go to the zoo. I made up some cards with pictures on them I will give her on the plane or in the airport. They are a head of lettuce (let's) a goat (go) two people (to ) a person who looks dizzy-trust me he really does-(Disney) and a leg with an arrow pointing at the knee for the rest of Disney. Hopefully she'll get it. I'm going to put them in random order and let her figure it out. :rotfl2:

I told her we would go to Disney next April, so she's busy saving change for her trip next year! Some days I just want to grab her and yell "We are going in September!!"

Not only have I've done the surprise thing for my kids, I've done it for my wife.

But whatever you do, don't tell them your going to Dick's House. :rotfl:

This video has been circulating these boards for a while. But there are also plenty more videos that have a much different ending!

We totally surprised my 8 year old stepson last month. He woke up one morning and we said "hey, wouldn't it be fun if we could go to Disney World today?" and he was like "yeah...." so we said "okay, get dressed and let's go!!!" He was SHOCKED!!!!!! It was great!

so it was simple but definitely effective!

ok I'm sitting her bawling watching the surprise disney videos on youtube LOL I'm such a sap

When I was little my parents said we were going on a Sunday drive. We were small enough that I don't even remember what was going on with luggage, etc. I think I was 8. Sunday drives were something my parents did a lot. We'd leave, drive somewhere, like Baltimore and spend a night or two go to the aquarium. But more often it was places like Gettysburg, or the franklin Institute in Philly, things that aren't the most exciting at seven LOL

Well we drove towards Philly airport and my dad says.. hey did you see that sign back there? It says Disney World is on sale.. And I remeber my mom turning around in the car and saying, what do you think girls? wanna go see Mickey?

I remember being so excited and at the same time thinking, do they mean right now? Are they kidding? Can we really go??? LOL And my mom said oh I don't think they wanna go. And we started yelling no we want to go, and my dad said ok, well i guess if you really wanna go.. and that was our surprise.. I was sooooo excited. It was my second trip but I was very little the first time I was there. and this was my sisters first trip.. I couldn't wait!

We left on a Friday and I gave a sealed note to my 7 year old son's teacher with instructions. We were withdrawing him from school at 1230 that day and the teacher kept him in the room after art class and told him that she was so proud of his improvement in grades and behavior and had a surprise for him. He opened up the envelope and inside was a picture of Mickey Mouse and the words "You are going to Disney World"! He didn't even respond but looked up at her and said when did he get to go and did his little brother "have" to go! She responded "right now--let me call your parents". She pretended to call us and 30 seconds later we opened his homeroom door and said "Let's go!" He still was in a daze until he saw the car packed and ready to go. He talked the entire 7 hour trip to Orlando. We didn't film it but wished we could have. We are doing the same trip, same time, in 2009 so we have to be creative.:rolleyes1

Great ideas!! BUT MY HUSBAND TOLD THEM!!!! He said it was too exciting and wanted them to know.

Man, Dick's house must rock. The older kid is hysterical!

First I have to say....LOVE the Dick's House video. Hysterical! :lmao:

We are surprising our kids NEXT WEEK!!! The trip is technically DD's gift for her 7th birthday. Here is what I am going to do...

Bought a Hannah Montana rolling suitcase at Target that she had been ooohing and aaaahing over. So she'll think the suitcase is her gift. Then we're going to tell her to open it. Inside will be a card that reads,

Dear A,

We hope you like your new Hannah Montana bag, because you're going to need it when we go to Disney World...TOMORROW! So start packing!

Love,
Mom and Dad

I am sure I won't be able to get any of the kids to sleep that night! :hyper:
