How Corny is Hoop de Doo?

DH and I are coming to Disney for what is basically some R&R, not really a parks trip. Since we have plenty of time, I am considering "other" things to do that are Disney-themed-related but won't involve the parks. I've always been curious about Hoop de Doo. DH is not the hugest Disney fan, but he does love slapstick humor and comedy in general. How corny IS HDD? I'm trying to decide if he might enjoy it or if it'll be a waste of time and money for us. Thanks!

I was very apprehensive to do this show and avoiding it for a good 5-6 trips. I finally did it on a mother/daughter trip figuring if we didn’t like it I had only blown money on two people, not four. Well we loved it. It’s hilarious in a good corny way. DD asks for it last trip but I steered her away by offering a signature dinner. It’s not something I want to do every trip due to the time it takes to get there and back but I will go back one day.

He will love it! Lots of humor/comedy in the show. Really fun, and the food is pretty good too.

You're convincing me- especially knowing the show is full of "dad-jokes!" One thing I saw on the Disney website is that it's possible to get a seafood alternative for the meal. Does anyone know what that is?

I booked for May 21! I was surprised to be able to get anything this close. Our reservation is for the 8:30 show, category 2; it's all that's left. Any tips or suggestions? Also, the trip is to celebrate our 30th anniversary; should we tell them?

There's a part of the show where they ask about birthdays and about celebrating anniversaries, so don't be shy about yours!

And I'll add to the posts saying how wonderfully corny the show is. Let me repeat something I said on another thread, that there was one point when I could "bearly" breathe because I was laughing so hard, and leave it at that.

They make it a point to talk about birthdays/anniversaries/occasions. Years ago we were there just after we'd gotten engaged and told them we were celebrating our engagement. We didn't realize they were going to call us out, but they did! I'm not one who usually likes stuff like that, but it was done in such a fun way, it's actually a really fun memory.

It was precovid but my daughter got salmon

No need to get there early or queue up at the door. Tables are pre-assigned so let the crowd dissipate before entering.

There is a portion of the show where they ask about special occasions like honeymoons, birthdays and anniversaries.

If there is any availability, I would suggest booking a horse carriage ride prior to your show (a 7:30 pm ride would work perfectly with the 8:30 pm show). We paired HDDR with a carriage ride a few weeks ago and it is such a nice way to enjoy the campgrounds.

It’s corny lol. My husband loved it and always wanted to go. I had a nice time joining him. It was fun. I wouldn’t have been sad to miss it but don’t regret going either.

It’s old fashioned fun. Sure it’s corny but we had a blast and my husband is not usually a fan of singing and country stuff. it reminds me of Hee Haw. You watch a performance and may even be chosen to participate. My daughter’s boyfriend was in the show and it was hilarious. He’s a big tough guy and he was given the role of the fairy . I was dying. There are sing along songs. The food is good and way too much of it! We were able to add Mac n cheese for fussy eater. My daughter is vegetarian and they were able to accommodate. You get fried chicken, ribs, salad, rolls, and sides then strawberry shortcake with fresh cream. It was all good. Soft drinks and coffee were unlimited and they also brought more chicken etc. we went as a family when my daughter graduated from college. They will ask and cast will come around with microphone if you let them know it’s your anniversary you may be serenaded. I would highly recommend!
