How Concerned Should I Be?

So the NOAA has predicted another scary hurricane season. How concerned should I be that this will ruin our October trip to WDW? We'll be there the first week in October (1st thru 8th). :scared1:

We've always traveled there during the hurricane season and have never had a problem. But after the one after another season of last year, I'm a little nervous!

I was just thinking the same thing...We will be there the exact same time as you are, and I was thinking it will be just my luck that a hurricane will come hen we are there... Lets keep our fingers crossed and think positive thoughts...Maybe we will see you there.

I wouldn't worry about it this far out. DH & I are going in August as well. I figure I'm going to look into a back-up plan and go from there. We can only travel that one week in August. So for us, we're just looking at a back-up drive to destination for us. It won't be the same but it's the "plan".

I know it's hard but I would try and not worry about it since you have no control over mother nature....at least if one hits you'll be at Disney!! :)

But if you are that worried - could you reschedule? Maybe that would ease your mind a bit....

(being in the paths of quite a few hurricanes the past few years has helped put things into perspective for me! :))

We are going the last week of September, we do every year, and out of the 9 nights we were there last time it only rained one time (it was at night)

perfect, HOT weather otherwise!

Sean and Mommy

Leaving for Disney Sept 22/05
:cheer2:

No sense to worry now. You never know with hurricanes. As time gets closer, have a back up plan if it makes you feel better!

I, too, am going during hurricane season, and we're flying without a net--no back-up plan! We'll bring books and stop at the store for provisions before we get there if the weather looks not-so-great so we'll have food to eat. Otherwise, we'll be in for the long haul!

I too am going Oct 1-8 and did see the forecast. The last hurricane that went through last year was on 9/25 so I know it will be cutting it close. I will be watching the weather and if bad enough then I might just cancel and make my November trip longer.

That means I will take a loss on MNSSHP tickets but if I know in advance maybe I can sell them. I think I remember reading on the boards last year that the World was only closed for one day during the hurricanes (one day at most for each one that went through - not one day total) so if that is the case, then it isn't so bad.

We went Late September to the first week in October in 2003. We will be going to Pop Century this year for five nights during the same time. In 2003 it was beautiful. I am hoping for the best! :bounce: :bounce:

I'm not really worried about a hurricane hitting while we are there. I am only worried about a hurricane preventing us from getting there, i.e. if the airport is closed again this year!! I wouldn't mind if the airport was closed the day we are to leave though! LOL

:umbrella: That's what I would worry about too, we were there last year for Frances and it wasn't that bad. Disney was wonderful, we even had to stay longer than planned because of it. I just want to get there, once I am there it's ok.

I was thinking the same thing this morning. We're going down at the end of August.

Was anyone there last year during any of the hurricans. How much did it effect the disney parks? How long were they closed for. I don't mind being held up one day for weather, or even delayed to fly home, but I don't want to be hotel bound for days with nothing to do.

Yes thats true that we cant control the weather .i went last year right before one of the hurricanes. There was huge downpour here in New England
and all flights indicated they will be leaving. Friends kept calling to say, 'You sure its not cancelled.''

I was there on 9/25 when the hurricane came. The park closed for only one day. I was kinda bummed out because we lost the day but considoring what coulda happened it was nothing. Dinsey handles it great. We were at the Wl and they brought in characters and musicians for the kids to play with, board games, things to color , art , movies etc. All the places to eat were open and it worked out pretty good.

The parks opened on time the next morning and the weather was great. We had to stay in our hotel room for the day of the hurricane and we were not allowed to go outside the WL.

Now I pray for no hurricanes this vacation because it just cant rain on my disney wedding!!!! But if it does it will still be great.

I too say its a little too early to worry about this.. but if if will make you feel any better. In 2000 a hurricane was headed right for WDW at the time we were heading down there. We came very close to cancelling.. We ended up adding days to our trip with plans to stay in the room for the stormy ones... amazingly enough.. the weather channel was showing Orlando getting pummelled, while at Disney we had only a half a day of light rain. I guess its all the pixie dust in the air, that kept the storms away. So dont worry just focus on the positive!!!!

I wouldn't worry too much. The weather forecasters around here can't seem to accurately predict to the weather for the weekend on Friday, so I don't put a lot of stock in forecasts for 3-6 months down the line. Make your plans and adjust as necessary.
