How come the price of airfare isn't going down?

In recent weeks we have seen a dramatic decrease on what we are paying at the pump . . .from over 3.00/gallon to now just 2.33/gallon . . .but I'm surprised to see that airfares also aren't dropping in price . . .

Because it never really went up enough to cover the price increases in the first place.

(Jet Fuel also costs more then auto gas)

Also most airlines buy their gas months sometimes years in advance to help stablize the ticket prices.

It is important to understand that many airlines are still not generating enough revenue to cover their costs, so until that situation is resolved, we shouldn't be seeing airfares decreasing.
