How come I did not see any Magical Express Cast Members at baggage claim?

I have always wondered why I did not see any Magical Express Cast Members walking around the bagagge claim area, looking for bags with the yellow tags? Do they wait until the area is clear of people, or do they only go to area's of flights with bags that they know will have the yellow tags because they can see on their reservations which guests flying whatever Airline will be using Magical Express?

The bags with yellow tags are pulled on the other side of the wall behind the carousel.

If you happened to see the carousel, you might have noticed that no bags with yellow tags were on the carousel, or if there were, it was only one or two and they probably disappeared after one trip around.

Oh I see how they do it. Thanks for the info because I learned something new and after reading what you said that makes a lot of sense the way the bags are seperated.

DME cast members go to the airlines unclaimed luggage office. They'll grab bags with yellow tags that got missed. They'll also grab bags of guests who signed up for DME that don't have yellow tags. They'll match the name on the airline tag to the DME passenger list. The assumption is the tag fell off, wasn't received by the guest or the guest forgot to apply the tag.

Also, yoo\u may have seen some DME CM's and didn't know it. The luggage CM's do not wear the same costume as the CM's at the arrival center. They wear a very plain blue shirt with a DME logo on it with dark blue pants.

Now that you mention it I did remember seeing a DME Cast Member by the car rental counters, pushing a cart with a lot of bags and a family was walking with them. I thought to myself if this family is taking Magic Express, why would they be going with the Cast Member and etc?

Please say this isn't so. I was under the impression that if we didn't put our yellow tags on the bags we would be responsible for picking them up and getting them on the bus ourselves. My DH wants to have the bags with us because that way he knows they arrived safe and sound. We want to take DME but want to lug our own bags.

Passengers who don't use the yellow tags are responsible to get their own bags off the baggage carousel.

A few posters took too long to get to the baggage carousel. The airline had already grabbed the remaining bags and taken them to the unclaimed luggage office. DME saw the passenger had signed up for DME and sent them over to WDW.

Makes some sense, a DME passenger that didn't make it over the baggage carousel may have either forgotten to use the yellow tag or the tag could have fallen off (not sure how). Don't stop for a meal before going to baggage claim.

Semi-related dumb question....I am only using DME on return to MCO, not on arrival. What are the yellow tags? If I put them on, will they automatically take my bags even if I'm not signed up? Are they even necessary in my case?
Thanks

i signed up fo the express but i changed my mind as far as having them get my bags should i cancel or just not put the tags on i dont want them to assume i had my tags on?

The yellow tags are sent to you by DME when you are using them from MCO to your Resort. If you are using DME from your Resort TO MCO, you don't need them.

If you are using a participating airline and checking in for your flight at your resort, they'll check-in your luggage all the way to your destination. You'll see them again there.

If you are not cheching in for your flight at your resort, you'll take your bags with you to the bus, and they'll be with you all the way.

If you want to take your luggage with you, just don't put on the tags and claim your luggage like you normally would. You then take it to the DME counter. When you check in, you'll indicate that you have your bags with you.

they wont take them behind the carosel and assume the tags fell off?

:confused3 This is what I'm wondering too.

When we went down last January we booked our trip 14 days before we left :scared1: (last minute). Our yellow tags never arrived. So no yellow tags and they still got the luggage for us. Which was fine - that's what we wanted, but I'm just saying, if your bags aren't there, don't panic right away.

They don't take any non-yellow-tagged luggage before the luggage is placed on the carousel. It's not until the carousel has stopped, and luggage hasn't been removed by the passenger, and I believe removed from the now-still carousel by airline personnel, that DME Cast Members will get started on it.

I am told by the Delta Airlines office that DME will not pick up luggage unless they have the luggage coded numbers from the passenger. I would think that is true with all the airlines and unclaimed luggage. When CM's go to baggage floor and see 50 - 100 bags all around the airlines office, I am sure they don't check each piece of luggage to see if a passenger with DME belongs to it. During busy times there is so much luggage laying around that it would be impossible for CM's to find luggage unless they are carrying the coded numbers. If you put those airline and Disney tags on your luggage they just tear off easy. Try it someday.

That will be the first question I will pose to the station manager when we get together in the next airport meeting.

It would take an army of hudreds to execute this.

My understanding is the only bags picked up by DME cast memebers are:
1) bags with yellow tags
2) bags without yellow tags, but bags that have been specifically requested for DME pickup (the DME customer has given their luggage claim numbers to DME along with bag descriptions).

Do not worry about taking to long to get to the baggage carousel. There are simply way to many pieces of luggage for DME cast members to look at each one without yellow tags, and cross reference the name on the bag with the thousands of people who use DME each day.

You can try and do a search. At least two posters, without yellow DME tags had their bags taken from the unclaimed luggage office.

I'm not suggesting DME looks at the hundreds of bags on the carousels. I am suggesting DME CM's have been known to go to the unclaimed luggage office and look through the dozens of bags that are there.

You mean to say that if intentionally untagged baggage doesn't show up, the guest should follow the procedure for guests who did not get their yellow tags, that is, go to the welcoming area and show the CM's the baggage claim checks?

Lewis,

The Disney CM's go over and look for yellow tagged luggage that came out on the carousels and didn't get back to Disney before it was pulled off the carousel. During the day when there are literally 100's of unclaimed bags on the second floor baggage area at the airline offices they do not go to each office and check each bag for people going to Disney. If it doesn't have a Disney tag it will sit there until the passenger claims it or Disney comes up with the claim numbers to claim it.

Those posters who received luggage went to the DME office and gave their description of the bags and that probably included the claim numbers before DME went to look for their luggage. If they did not do that, their luggage was tagged or they picked it up themselves. I have never seen a CM, on the second floor, walking into an airline office with a passenger manifest and picking up luggage. It won't happen either.

Talking with the station manager last week I was impressed with the fact that she was highly concerned with the payroll numbers. I will guarantee you she does not employ CM's just to walk up and down the baggage floor on A and B sides just to look for luggage at the airline offices, that might match the names on the Disney daily incoming manifest. I will verify this information when I see her in the next airport meeting.
