How come DVC members staying on points only get Housekeeping every 4 days?

as others have said, it's just a difference in the timeshare lifestyle.

i stayed at some very nice marriott timeshares this year...no housekeeping at all during the 7 night stays.

Ok, so is it some what more of an problem with DVC that people just staying one or two nights on points will cost them more money, by the room they used will have to be clean upon their departure? I mean, if you have quite a few DVC members just booking a room for one or two nights, then they leave, surelly they will have the room cleaned?

And truthfully, most people do not "miss" daily housekeeping. Most people don't change their sheets and towels daily at home. I prefer not to have housekeeping in the room daily.

:thumbsup2 This..

We don't miss the daily cleaning - but we do however miss fresh towels, since we tend to shower more on vacation due to chlorine - excessive sweat - freshening up before dinner etc etc -

We love having a washer and a dryer in the room - we are able to wash our clothes and our towels so usually we have good supply of towels after we 'relocate' a few - and do our first load of laundry!

But we don't miss the daily clean-up - it's actually good to know that no one will be in your room - no one will knock in the early AM - and you don't have to worry about straightening up every morning or locking up valuables.

As you said, you have the washer / dryer (in a 1bed and above) but I dont get the whole towel thing. Last time I checked you are supposed to be clean when you use a towel, so all it should need to do is dry to be used the next time. Now I get that you do change them eventually lol, but needing new towels everyday is, as stated on the little cards, IMO just a waste of money and soap..

Getting fresh towels on day 4 is a luxury for us, as we only wash them at home at the end of the week!

Us too. Every weekend, fresh towels all around. Every other week, fresh sheets go on the beds.

When I was growing up, my parents & grandparents would take my brother and I to the Sierra Nevada mountains and we would stay in a "housekeeping" cabin for a week to 10 days every summer. I watched my mother and grandmother cook the meals every day, and my brother and I made the beds each morning. It's just a part of me now, that doing it while we're in a DVC villa is just normal. But I'm also a bit anal in that I will make up the traditional hotel room beds myself, since I don't want the room to be "too messy". I personally CANNOT get into an unmade bed at night. Towels I can use all week long and then wash/get fresh, but a bed has to be made up everyday. To each his own...

As you said, that would be a personal preference, like locks on bathroom doors. Some don't mind re-using unwashed towels, while others might find it unsettling. What works for one doesn't necessarily work for another and there's no right or wrong to it. Unless one insists that their way is the only way, of course.

Then don't make your bed. ;) Of course, that would drive me nuts as I prefer to get into a made up bed at night.

Here's the cost for paying for the mousekeeping daily rates. It's expensive.

Additional Full Cleaning Rates:

Studio/Inn Room - $30.00 per day requested

One-Bedroom - $45.00 per day requested

Two-Bedroom - $60.00 per day requested

Three-Bedroom (Grand villa or THV) - $75.00 per day requested

Additional Trash & Towel Rates:

Studio/Inn Room - $15.00 per day requested

One-Bedroom - $20.00 per day requested

Two-Bedroom - $25.00 per day requested

Three-Bedroom - $35.00 per day requested

With dry clean towels and clean sheets. (I hate getting into a bed that's not made) And like I said... I'm on vacation. I budget for all the little extras that make my vacation more enjoyable. I got used to the concierge level at GF so I really would miss having mousekeeping evey day. I think it's well worth the extra money. But that's just me.

We still have younger kids. I do not assume that they washed with soap and water unless I witnessed it my self. So we wash towel frequently but not daily at DVC. I would love a extra kitchen towel as I hate using paper and a few extra wash cloths.

Even when we are scheduled we usually leave the do not disturb sign out or let housekeeping know it skip us.

What drives me crazy is people that leave trash in the hall. :sad2: I do wish DVC would put signs on the back of the entry doors letting people know where the trash room is located.

I don't think they change the sheets daily even with the extra charge.

That's one of the detractors of DVC for us. I don't really care about having clean sheets everyday and I make the bed to clear up more space in the room. However, the thing I miss is fresh towels. At home, we go 2 days at most without washing towels. Plus, where do you hang the towels? We hang them up in the closet and let them air dry.

There is always a full cleaning between guests. I would guess that most DVC stays are 4 to 7 nights, which means only a trash & towel is included, which really does not take alot of labor time.

After 11 years of DVC, I have not missed it.

If all you care about are clean towels, you can purchase an "extra towel" package that is pretty reasonable. I don't have access to the rates right now, but you can get extra towels, wash cloths, and hand towels at a cheap price to make up between trash and tidy days. Of course, if you have a 1BR or larger, you can just throw your towels in the wash and have fresh towels for FREE everyday too!

We still like to cover up our "valuables". What keeps "housekeeping" from coming in?:headache: I have heard at some hotels and a few time shares:sad2: where housekeeping cleaned a few more things then just towels. (I know not all are bad)You just never know anymore. And why make it easy for them anyways?:headache:

Why is it you can't get a child under the age of 9 to get out of the shower? And older then 9 you can't get them in it?
Is it really that bad with the trash?:confused3

On a towel rack:rolleyes1 I had to do it:lmao:

We have no issues with the lack of daily housekeeping. In fact, I prefer it. I actually put out the 'privacy please' door hanger when not staying DVC. I like not having people in my room during the day.
Make the beds?? I always straighten the beds each day. I usually do it while dd is getting ready for the day. Dh gets up first and showers, then I get up. He gets the coffee going and sometimes makes a run for breakfast goodies, while I'm in the shower. Then, I get out, dd gets up and hits the shower and I make the beds. We have no problem with drying towels....they go on the racks or over doors..whatever.

The one time I took another mother and her dd to WDW (a girls birthday trip for our dd's) I had to go around grabbing all our extra towels and faceclothes for her. She was in the second bedroom of our two bedroom villa and was appalled that she wasn't getting a clean facecloth/towel every day. I ended up washing them every other day.

You were a more gracious host than I would have been. I would have showed her the washer dryer and left it up to them to wash the towels, if they wanted clean ones. :rotfl:

Appalled at getting free deluxe accomodations! Wow, I suppose it's all in what you are use to or what your expectations are!

Most people have stayed at a hotel a time or two but maybe that's not the case with a timeshare. I always make sure to educate my guests as to the rules, accomodations, and perks relevant to a DVC stay. So they know right at the start to hang those towels up and to be considerate of others to ensure that everyone has towels. I provide the free digs and even detergent, and to date I've never had a disgruntled or appalled guest; quite the opposite, they've all been very appreciative.

I am actually annoyed when the bed is made in most hotel rooms... I then have to go through the effort to unmake it!! I HATE having the sheets tucked in, always have and can't sleep until they aren't tucked in.

My mom was a housekeeper for years and when we went places when I was younger would joke with me about all the work I make the poor housekeeper do just to go in and immediately rip the top sheet out from being tucked in!!

We had 9 people in a two bedroom a few weeks ago and still had no problem with the housekeeping schedule. I actually had to remind everyone on day 4 to be sure to put their towels in the bathtub if they wanted new ones.

I wish they would post a sign also. It usually is not very hard to find, but I would prefer a little sign that said where it was. I can't stand to see the trash in the hall.

Ah, just like our neighbors at VWL in August. We were on the ground floor, all the way to the end of the hall. And almost every single morning, of our 4 night stay, we had to walk by a bag of trash siting outside a room. And yes, it was a different bag of trash each day. What really bugged me??? The trash room was two doors down. They had to have passed by it every single time they left their villa. Why not just drop it off.

One thing I have been wondering is why do DVC member staying on points only get Housekeeping service every 4 days or whatever the exact number is?

This is very simple to answer. It's because DVC members are the tidiest of all the resort guests. There are no other guests as tidy as we are. We are not at all like the riff raff that think the resort is one large garbage can. I'm not going to mention any names but they know who they are . . . CR Resort Fan 4 Life
