How come a great little restaurant like Bengal BBQ isn't franchised at malls?

Was just talking to my DH and he said it would be a great little business for Disney to offer those not able to be in the parks, some of the Beloved Food Fare that we are used to eating in the Disney parks, such as food from the Bengal BBQ. Or can you imagine if Oscar's soup were sold in a mall shop? I bet I would be there at least once a week, minimum!

I really wonder why Disney doesn't take the park food fare out into the real world, where everyone can access it.

I think it would lose its quality and magic outside of the parks. If everyone cooked like mom does, it wouldn't be mom's home cooking, would it? It would just be food. It being in the parks is what makes it special, not the food for its own sake. It has to be in context. :goodvibes

Interesting idea. I think once it gets franchised disney loses a lot of "quality control" and like others have said it would lose its magic.

Back in the early 90s Disney had a restaurant at Woodfield mall in suburban Chicago . I think it was called something like "Mickey's Diner" and it didn't last longer than a couple of years. Woodfield is known as being the test grounds for new stores, perhaps if it had done better, there would have been more.

Frankly, I don't think there is anything special about most of the food at Disneyland other than the fact that it's at Disneyland! If it were elsewhere I would not go out of my way to get it.

I made the soup at home.... Yummmm. It was delicious!

I do agree with pp about it losing the whole reason it's special if it was everywhere, although I think I would get a huge kick out of watching people knaw on turkey legs at the mall. Ewww! Bahahaha!

Thanks for your replies, everyone, and I agree with most of the sentiments that quality control would be difficult to manage, as well, the magic of eating at the Bengal BBQ RIGHT beside the Indiana Jones ride, with the scent of the jungle cruise mingling in, and hearing the music of Adventureland - would all be lost.

I guess I am just craving DL food. :( But more to the point, I miss DL.

LOL Tinkermomma, that would be weird to see people gnawing on the turkey legs in a mall. I am always fascinated because they look so pink and RAW but I've been told they go through a smoking procedure and are indeed cooked.

We also made Chef Oscar's recipe at home, and it was really cool that it tasted so similar.

That's interesting to know about. Thanks! :goodvibes
