How cold is it?

OK, We are leaving in 9 days. Yeah and I'm starting to worry about the weather. This question is for anyone staying in a pop-up. When you come back from the parks at night how cold is it? We have heat but ofcause don't run it while we are out. Does anyone use a space heater or do you rely on your propane that it won't run out. One more heat related question. I read on here the other day the heat wasn't turned on in the bathroom. Has this been changed. I hate being cold, especially naked! Thanks, Gina

I think you read the no heat in the comfort station on tim5055's report, and that was in reference to the comfort station at a park he stays at in SC on the way down. I would be very surprised if there was no heat this time of year in the comfort stations at FW. When we need heat in the camper, we turn the furnace on. I can run for a couple of weeks in cold weather with twin 20lb tanks, and it generally will only drain one completely. Just keep the thermostat down when you aren't there. During the day, it really shouldn't be that cold that the furnace won't kick on too much if the thermostat is down. Daytime temps have been in the mid to upper 60's in Orlando lately.

It can get really cold at night at FW ..... even though the daytime temps are in the 60-70 range. We use the little space heaters instead of our propane most of the time. One little space heater can heat a pop-up comfortably with ease. The other thing we do in December at FW is use our electric blankets. They seem to really make a difference in our sleep. In all of our years camping at FW, we have never encountered the comfort stations without heat, so I doubt they would start that practice now. I'm sure with a few minor precautions, you will stay plenty warm!

bianca- what size heater do you use. We have a fairly large pop-up. two king size beds so the idea of a heater and electric blankets sounds just like what we need. Thanks we have been camping in Oct. so i'm thinking we probably will have the same temp. Not too bad, and without relying on the propane I'll feel alot better. Gina

We use a 1500 watt heater ..... about 15 amps, so it won't overload anything. If you can handle New York in October, you can handle FW in December! Have fun!

We are directly east of WDW, so it is a few degrees warmer because of the ocean.

At 11pm, it is 63 degrees in my empty garage and 45 degrees outside. The low should reach 35 tonight!

I like a little heat for my morning routine, too!

It has only been cold here for the past 3 days...so any comparison with last week would be moot.

I got an email last night from DS who lives in Orlando and is a cast member. He said he had to scrape frost off his windshield after work!
I answered.....Well, I had to shovel a path to my car and brush snow off my car!
He answered.... LOL!!!!

We've been at Ft. Wilderness in Dec a few times. I recall one year some cast members put warnings on each campsite to leave the water on at a trickle over night as they were afraid the lines would freeze. Be prepared for cold weather this time of year!

We're just back, and it was COLD!! But our furnace in our pop-up kept us plenty warm. We DID run out of propane on the coldest night, but think we have a leak in an outside connection. (we didn't smell anything, but then after a couple of days I was in the right spot down wind and finally smelled it - until then we assumed we'd used alot of propane, since it was the 1st time out in the new camper). Even without the furnace we were very toasty in our sleeping bags, and they are cheapies. The other part of your question, we left the furnace off all day and it only took a few minutes to heat the space. We'd pop in, turn it on, head over to use the facilities and come back to warmth.

The comfort stations were heated.

Between the time of year and the weather, you wouldn't believe the "crowds". We walked right on EVERYTHING!!! We did laps on the things we really enjoyed. It was wild. I"m afraid my kids were spoiled for any future trips.

My newly-turned-three year old rode test track three times in a row (then it was 9:30, they asked us to leave) and woke up the next morning asking to go to the race car ride

ftwildernessguy is correct, my no heat comment was in refernece to Hunting Island State Park.

The comfort stations at FW have always been nice and warm.

We use a Pelonis ceramic heater in our pop up and have no problems keeping it warm.
