Be honest!

Just wondering if we are slobs or if that is the norm..

:rotfl:

Do you do your dishes/dishwasher right after dinner or that night?

Do you keep your house tidy everyday or do you let it slack for a few days?

How often do you DEEP CLEAN?

Explain to me your cleaning routine, and how clean your house is on a daily basis...

Right now..mine still has dishes from last night in the sink..which could have been put in the dishwasher..but weren't.

We have toys, and clothes EVERYWHERE that NEED to be put away or washed. It's insane really. We are two grown people that can't seem to work full time jobs and have enough energy left to clean our house in the evening.
What's wrong with us???

our house is horrible....FULL of clutter and it is driving me nuts. I am purging lightly every week.

LOL, Clean house, what is that ???????:rotfl:

The downstairs of my house is pretty clean most of the time. Dishes are done right after meals, the house gets picked up at least once a day and we run the vacuum a few times a week. I do a good cleaning usually once a week - kitchen, bathrooms, vacuum and dust.

I usually let the upstairs (3 bedrooms and playroom) go, and they are a mess most of the time. I figure we are only up there when we are sleeping, so it doesn't matter if it is a mess.

DH keeps telling me its neat & cleaner than other peoples houses, but I know its not as neat as when I used to work. Now that I'm home all the time, it looks "lived in" instead of just "slept at".

The cleaning part is still done as much as it used to be. So I guess its still as clean, but not as neat in some rooms.

When people come over though unexpectedly & I apopogize for the mess, they say its neater than theirs. I just don't feel so. I'm good at hiding junk though.

Part of the problem was that we were going to move. We got rid of some furniture/storage pieces because we were going to have more closests. We didn't move & now the items don't have a home anymore to be put away in. I'm working on fixing that.

The kitchen/living room level is cleaner than bedroom level. I keep the door to DH's mantown closed. lol

I married a neat freak. My home is spotless. I honestly wish my DH would go to counselling or get medication for it. He tries but if one thing is out of place he will completely freak out and his whole day/evening is ruined.

We have a DD8 and DS6, it is really hard to have a spotless home! Plus I work outside the home full time.

One time in college a friend of his stopped by his appartment to play video games. The friend had a clump of mud that fell off his shoe. I could see DH (BF at the time) get really antsy and finally turned off the game and told the friend he had to leave NOW. The poor guy was so confused but left. DH got out the vacumn and took the floor part off so he just had the hose and vacumned the whole room with just the hose. He went inch by inch and it took him over 3 hrs.

He will use an entire bottle of pledge if he dusts the house. It still takes him hours to do one room. Its like he just can not stop. He will dust a piece of furniture over and over, getting the sides, the back, everything. He insists I move the furniture in the family room everytime I vacumn.

He wipes the kitchen counters with the clorox wipes several times a day.

It is exhausting. I would so much rather have a peaceful house and see a little dust once and awhile!

It's much easier now that dd is away at school. When she was little, it was much harder for me to keep everything clean. Now my house is cleaner but I miss my dd--even though she's messy. ;)

I was quite ill last week so the boxes with the decorations are still out and I had Christmas gifts all over the dining room table and the dishes waited for DH to get home. It makes me crazy--things are finally getting back to normal now.

Do you do your dishes/dishwasher right after dinner or that night?

We do the dishes right after dinner.

Do you keep your house tidy everyday or do you let it slack for a few days?

I try to tidy up every evening. We're both at work all day so there isn't that much to tidy.

How often do you DEEP CLEAN?

I'm not sure if you mean the same thing I do by this--every weekend, we pull the furniture out and vaccuum behind it, mop, dust baseboards, dust furniture, do more than surface clean bathrooms, etc.

You guys are making me feel better
I don't have filth -toilets are clean etc...
but clutter everywhere, papers clothes, cereal boxes on the counters etc...
Sometimes I feel like it is my biggest failure as an adult that I can't keep the house up.

It's moderately clean but probably not cleaned as regularly as I would like it to be. I do most of it. We also clean before "special" company comes over.

We do the dishes after every meal. I do laundry pretty much all week. Everything else stays pretty tidy with the exception of our bedroom because DH is a slob. I let that go for 3 days or so and then I do a big sweep through it to pick up after him and make the bed etc. I also have a bad habit of walking in the front door and putting down bags of things I have purchased and notmoving them for a couple days. Otherwise things are fairly tiday.

If it were just me and the kids at home, the house would be cluttered, to say the least. But I am married to a neat freak deluxe so there is no way he would go to sleep with dishes in the sink. He's not as bad as the PP said her DH is with the Pledge but maybe only because he doesn't dust. That's the kids' job. It is nice to have a clean house when folks just drop in but once in a while, I have to tell him that if he wanted to live in a spotless house, he'd have to live alone. We have 6 kids at home aged 5-17 so you can imagine what it looks like at times. The kids' bedrooms and game room are upstairs so that doesn't really bother him unless he has to go up there for something. We always know when the boys want to have friends over because they'll be vacuuming upstairs, cleaning their bathroom and the game room, etc.

Please dont come come over with out calling first.. I need to shove all the crap in one room and close the door first.. thank you...

its not "dirty", its lived in.. yeah.. that's it lived in.. deep cleaning? I dunno maybe once every 3-4 months.. I do need to steam vac the carpets this weekend because the dog got into the garbage and something did NOT agree with her..

We are clean but cluttered - if that makes sense. You will not find anything grody in my home, but you will find a stack of books and magazines here and there. Dishes do get done everyday or my cats would get into them. I have a knack for getting my laundry all washed and folded and yet somehow not put away. There are things on my tables and counters - mostly papers. For a society that talks so much about going paperless - why is there so much in my house???

Everywhere but my DD 16 room is very clean; I do floors and bathrooms on Tuesdays; dusting on wed. and sheet changes on thurs. The kitchen is done daily. We do have a spare bedroom that we use as the boys playroom ages 7,3. So, that helps alot.

Our house is usually very neat and clean.

I load the dishwasher right after dinner - there are never any dishes in the sink.

Beds are all made before the kids leave for school. I vaccum every day and pick up constantly. I even vaccum the steps every day! I spot clean the downstairs bathroom every day, and upstairs bathrooms a few times a week.

I'm lucky enough to have cleaning people that come every other week and really deep clean.

It's a lot easier to keep the house really clean now that the kids are all in school. When they were little (I had 3 in 34 months!) I always felt so overwhelmed - you'd get one room done and they'd mess up another.

It's pretty clean most of the time. We're definitely not neat freaks but the house is almost always clean enough so that I'm not embarrassed if we have unexpected company.

IMO: there is nothing nicer than sitting down with the family knowing things are neat and orginized..so why can't i keep it that way?

I will agree, we do scrub our toilets and tubs and things are CLEAN. But we are bad about doing disnes everynight, folding the laundry and putting it away instead of just throwing it in the CLEAN CORNER. lol

Oh, this has to be so hard for you. I have a friend whose husband is OCD like this and it's very hard for her. He's a true jerk though and won't let her have any company over. I feel for both of you.

Our house is pretty neat for the most part. I do deep cleaning once a week and vacuum a couple of times a week. The dishes are always done and I don't get too far behind in laundry. It's only "Thanksgiving Clean" on the holidays though (oh, and after I'm done with the weekly major cleaning).

I'm really trying to work with my kids and their clutter. I have two packrats. It doesn't help that we moved from a 2400 sf home to a 1250 sf home, so finding places for things has been difficult. We've been majorly decluttering over the last six months.

Great thread!
