How Clean are the Values?

We are making our first Disney trip as a family sometime (?) in the next few months. Trying to find a week when its not so busy and also get some Florida resident dicounts.

With that said this will be the first time for any of us to stay at a Disney resort but I am suuper picky about how clean a hotel room is. My question is are the moderate resorts & the values equal in how clean/ran down they might be? Im a former hotel housekeeper for a 5 star resort & I know all the shortcuts housekeepers do sometimes to get done in time and frankly its GROSS. Im considering POR or POP at this point with a 4yr old and 9month old :)

Thanks! :goodvibes

I've stayed at a value once and found its cleanliness to be just fine. :) You can't exactly say "oh, this resort is cleaner than this one" as it all depends on the mousekeeper and their individual work.

On a side note, as a mom who stayed at a value with a then 15-month-old who slept in a pack 'n play, you might want to consider a mod for more space. It was just the 2 of us and I felt cramped, just a personal opinion though!

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the level of housekeeping doesn't change based on your level of accommodations....every value we've stayed at has been immaculate, and I am pretty picky about that kind of stuff. When we stayed at CBR (a moderate), i actually noticed more "issues" there despite being "a level higher"...mind you, nothing awful, just little things....overall, I think Disney does a great job with their housekeeping. :thumbsup2

Thanks for your input. I had thought of the space issue too...we co-sleep most of the time but will have a pack and play too.

I have stayed at 2 values, 3 moderates and 2 deluxes and they are all kept clean, one is not cleaner than the other. Just because it is a value doesnt mean they dont take care of it and keep it clean, it just means they dont provide the extra's like hot tub, monorail, larger rooms ect..

Good to hear, Im just trying to get this all planned and I dont want to be disappointed when I get there! :confused3 The photos make the Mods look more like boutique hotels & the Values look like the econolodge, lol Just want to make the right choice I think Ill look into the Mods & see whats more cost effective vs. space & all that jazz Thanks!

theming. POP has larger than life statues and the Hippy Dippy pool is a GREAT pool for kids with it's large sprinkling flowers. Knowing your background in the hotel industry, I would think YOU would like a moderate, but if you see the two hotels through a child's eyes, I think POP would be an excellent choice for your 4 year old.

I'm just going to back up the other posters who say that there is no difference in cleanliness standards across the resorts :)

I personally have nothing bad to say about the Values. Pop Century has become one of our favorite places to stay. I will be there in 2 days and again in June. I would not hesitate. :thumbsup2

Yes I do think I would enjoy the mod more :rotfl: but Im trying to not spend every dime I have too. BUT the Fl resident discounts I am seeing right now will certainly help out! :) Thanks for all the info!!

We've stayed at Pop with 3 adults and a 6 and 2 yr old and it was ok. A typical hotel room cramped, but we aren't in the room except to eat, sleep and get ready. (not to mention the ginormous double stroller taking up space). :thumbsup2
We stayed at a moderate the next yr with 2 adults and a 3 and 7 yr old and really didn't think the extra space was that noticable (other than the storage bench). And while it was much prettier scenery (CBR), it was a longer walk to get anywhere. And with 2 kids, it seemed more of a hassle. We've gone back to Pop and will continue (or try the new Art of Animation), until we get to take a mommy/daddy deluxe trip. ;)
And on a side note, to your original cleanliness question, the only issue we've had at Pop was someone smoking in their bathroom, which would fill our bathroom up with smoke. They moved us immediately upon request! Enjoy your trip!!!

My first resort at WDW was Dixie Landings..now POR. I like the moderates, I really do. And I have stayed at POR (DxLs) mulitiple times. BUT...I just can't justify the added expense over a value resort. I love Pop Century...love, love, love it!!! It's clean, well kept, bright, cheery.
Now...I own DVC at both BWV and BLT, so I obviously stay at these resorts a lot. But, when I'm not staying on my points, I'm staying at Pop. Why not a moderate???
Simply put...I can't see spending more money for an inroom fridge, for about one foot more room front to back and side to side. I don't need the pool slides that the moderates have...not nearly as exciting as the deluxe pools. But, your kids are younger so they may be better off with the smaller slides. I like the addtl theming you get with a moderate..but it doesn't justify the addtl cost. I seldom eat major meals at my resort, so I don't need the table service places the mods have...I'm not crazy about them. They're okay but nothing outstanding.

The values do tend to look more stark than the moderates. But I have to tell you...kids love 'em. They are fun resorts. The other thing??? I have had better housekeeping at Pop than at POR!!! Not sure why, but there it is. I had atrocious housekeeping at Kidani one time...go figure. Level of resort does not offer you better, or worse, housekeeping.

Many who have never stayed at a value seem to think they're on par with a motel 6 or days inn. Not even close! Just because they have outside rooms doesn't mean low quality. I find the values very nice, great landscaping, and fun decor. With decent food courts, shops, pool bars etc. these are no 1 star hotels.

Awesome thank all of you for the info seriously!! I just looked at the rates for the time period I want to go and POP would be $62.50/night and POR $109/night sooo.....yeah still a hard choice BUT I think we will go with POP and save the $$ for the first Disney trip experience! With $210 for 3 nights & $99 for 3 day tickets I think that puts us in a good place to move up if we feel like it. Thanks again!!! **though you may still find me lysoling everything** :scared1:

I agree with the others. I have stayed at a few deluxes and 2 values. The level of cleanliness has always been perfect at the values. My worst experience with a dirty room was actually at the Contemporary which is a deluxe. The Pop blew that away! If it wasn't for the 4 person max at the Pop that would probably be a very close 2nd to our favorite, the Poly!

Well said!!!!:)

I've stayed at AsMo and Pop more than once. My family & I have no complaints about the values at all! Rooms were always clean and staff always friendly. The only reason we're not going back this year is due to party size (5 in one room).

When we stayed in a first floor room at the All Star Music in 2009, the only cleanliness issue we had were the carpets--they really needed a steam cleaning. The bottom of our white socks were dark after walking around the room. Otherwise we haven't had any issues in any type of room.

Well, I do wipe down the remote and phone and such at all level of resorts. I do the same thing no matter where I'm staying...it's not just a case with value resorts at WDW. I do the same thing at BWV!!

I think that you will really like Pop. But please...go in with an open mind. Do not go in with the thought that you are settling for a lesser resort, and that it just isn't going to measure up to a deluxe or even a moderate..but it's cheap so you'll make do. If you go in thinking that, you are not going to be able to see Pop for what it is...a fun, bright, cheerful resort, with a great atmosphere. I have never had bad housekeeping there. In fact, I have had some of the best housekeeping there. The food court gets crowded and noisy at busy times, but if you can avoid those times, you'll be good to go. The buses are really good....they come often and are plentiful. But, there will be waits for the buses at park closing..so be prepared for that.
Have fun at Pop. Wish I was going back there soon!!!

I was a housekeeper at All Star Music during the College Program and they were SUPER STRICT about the cleanliness. Once the housekeepers went in the rooms to clean, they had "inspectors" whose job it was just to go in all the rooms and make sure the housekeeper didn't miss a thing-if I even missed one teeny tiny water spot on the mirror, the inspector would come and hunt me down and make me go back to the room to re-do that one teeny spot. From my experience as a housekeeper at a value resort, they are VERY clean and go the extra mile to make sure the rooms are perfect
