Hi everyone, I never post in the cruise forum but I'll give it a try.

I'm going on my 2nd cruise this December ( Not Disney), Dear SO and I usually go for the winter holiday. I was thinking about getting a little christmas tree and battery pack operated christmas lights and what not.

Do you have any idea's where I can purchase this and lug it on the plane without her knowing? Also, what other festive ideas do you have for making our room festive?

I look forward to all your ideas and suggestions.

Thanks

hello fellow northern californian (i live up the road from you in dixon!).

you can probably grab a small table top tree with lights already attached at walmart as early as halloween week, the dollar store would work well too. they also sell small strands of battery powered lights at Michaels Arts and Craft stores if you wanted to hang some in the room (or if you have a veranda-outside). another idea would be to get some of those cling on decorations that would stick to the windows and mirrors.

The cruise line often offers something. We sailed on the Magic last Christmas and ordered this from DCL.

We brought small little battery powered lights from home and added them on. We also found that little snow scene at a store near home and brought it. We took at second strand of lights and put them out on the verandah.

A number of our group ordered a teleflora tree from Shirley at The Perfect Gift that came complete with ornaments.

DW and I went on an Eastern cruise last December. We, too, wanted to decorate. So we took regular Christmas lights and several small suction cups to hang around the mirror. There is an outlet right there with 2 connections. Hope that gives you another idea.

Thanks for all the idea's. My SO and I go on a cruise with princess every December for the winter holiday. This year will be our first balcony. I can't wait to decorate it and make the room all pretty.

Last year for the first time ever I went to the Dollar store and Big Lots, it was in Nov. and I didn't see any small artifical christmas tree's, so I was thinking I should order online. I didn't even think about window clings. You Dis'ers are so smart.

Bring on the suggestions!

Another idea is to put the Christmas cling decorations on the verandah door.
We did this for our porthole window. They are flat, you peel them off paper, take up very little room and makes a nice merry decoration! Have a great cruise!! :sunny:

Hi,

My family gets together every year in December for our family Christmas vacation. We started out staying at Disneyworld and then moved onto cruising. Needless to say, the Christmas decorations really got down sized when we started cruising, but we still make it work even though space and luggage is now an issue. I buy/bring one table top lighted christmas tree. You can get a battery operated one with lights, but for our main gift tree I like to stick to the plug in type. Though it's more of a challenge to find an outlet that's not being used, I think the plug in types are brighter. I also bring smaller sized non-lighted little Christmas trees that are decorated with red bows, etc. for each stateroom. The table top trees are pretty cheap at about $10-15 and some come fully lighted and decorated. Just pop them out of the box and open them up. You get can get them just about anywhere starting around October at Walmart's, Targets, Big Lots, grocery stores and even drug stores like Walgreens. The small palm size trees you can decorate yourself and get them at any craft store or even some dollar stores.
I also bring those window cling ons, they make safe, easy decorations to place on the window in the stateroom or mirror. Those I usually get at Walmart, but I am sure you can find them other places.
You can also bring soft hanging plush tree ornaments to hang off the door handles inside the staterooms. You can even personalize these to match the people staying in the staterooms.
We also have lots of Christmas gifts, so we usually don't have a huge amount of extra space in our luggage to do alot of Christmas decorations. Yes, we always take one night of the cruise and make it a family get together time where we order hot cocoa and cookies and sit around the lighted Christmas tree and open gifts and just be with the family. Usually we do this after dinner and last year on RCCL we got a suite and even watched the movie "Christmas Vacation" togther on the VCR after opening gifts. :)

Mmketeer......next cruises RCCL-SOS 12/16 & DCL-Wonder 2/6
