How can I make dye for eggs?

DS7 has been sick with a tummy bug since yesterday, so he won't be going to MIL's to color eggs with DS10 and their cousin. DH is working, so I can't go to the store to get egg dye, can I make it at home? I was thinking food coloring, which I have, but what else do I need? I hate for him to miss out completely if he doesn't have to.

i would do food coloring, white vinigar and water -- have fun

Yes, I agree with the food coloring and vinegar. Also, if you have any colored tissue paper, you can wrap eggs in wet tissue paper and then let it fall off after it dries. It looks kind of like tie-dye. It will dye your fingers though.
