How can I justify paying $160/night for 10 nights?

Ideally, we would like to stay 10 nights from June 23 to July 5th, 2005 at the Royal Pacific. However, as I do more and more research on this board, I am not sure what my effective nightly rate is going to be. I am not sure of this because Entertainment or APH discounts may not be available for all 10 nights between June 23 and July 5th. My dates are totally flexible within the months of June and July ----- if that helps any! If I knew that I could get an Entertainment rate or APH rate of $129 or $139 for my 10 nights --- I would be O.K. and could substantiate paying up to $145 / night which would be about $160 night with taxes. Given the uncertainty of what the rates will be ------- here is another thought:

Why not stay 10 nights at Port Orleans Riverside and I know with good probability that the nightly rate with taxes will only be $100 ----- that is a whopping $60 / night savings!!! Even though I will be going to Universal for 4 days and Sea World for 2 days and will not be attending the Disney parks - at least I will be in a great environment and save at least $600 in the process! I know about the FOTL passes and the high praise for these. However, we will have annual Power passes and will be attending Universal for 4 days - all during the week in the month of June or July. My question is ----- how busy is US and IOA during the week? If we avoid the parks on the weekend, do we stand a good chance of enjoying ourselves and avoiding the long waits? Having never been to US or IOA during the month of June and July during the weekday, we are not sure what to expect. But, one thing is for sure --- US and IOA nightly rates are too high! This is just some constructive criticism for the US hotels!

For those that have been to US and IOA during the month of June and July (during the weekday only) - please let me know your comments ---- honest comments good or bad! Thanks!

You can't compare RPR and Port Orleans. That is apples and oranges.

Port Orleans..a disney moderate resort..sprawling and inconvenient, mediocre food in food court.

RPR...on the leve, if not better than a disney deluxe resort.. with better amenities and service. Great rates for the boutique type resort it is.

The US parks are VERY crowded during that time. Stay on-site for the express access (even with the changes it's a great perk) and the convenience of being able to just walk back to your hotel when you want a break.

Why not split your stay between the two hotels, then you pay less for your disney hotel and are closer to disney theme parks, and stay at a nicer hotel and FOTL while at universal.

I agree with Lori00789 We split our stay every year and it is great. If you are flexible maby you should stay away from the 4th...

I also suggest you split your stay between WDW and Universal. I would do Disney first and then Universal. You will have FOTL to look forward to if you do Disney first. In my opinion, 10 days is too long to stay put in either place. I would do six nights Disney and four nights Universal.

I agree. Split your stay. Stay onsite Universal for 3 nights. You can get 4 days of FOTL with that. Then buy a week for a villa off of skyauction.com for the other days. You said you weren't going to Disney but only going to Universal for 4 days. What else (besides sea world) will you be doing?? If just hanging out, one of the villas would be great. You can get a week rental for $300 - $600 depending on where you want to stay and how many people, etc.

i think the original posters stated that he isn't going to WDW but wants to stay on WDW property for the cheaper price and go to UO and SW

i would splurge for 5 days at UO hotel then rent a house\villa- which really can be reasonable with a pool- you'll have a great time
