How can I help my son get picked for Jedi training?

He is a star wars freak and is obsessed with being involved with the Jedi training. I have told him that not everyone can get picked but he just can't grasp that concept!! Any ideas?

have him:
stand in front-right in front of the rope
jump up and down like a crazy person
raise hands high and wave frantically
wear a star wars shirt

try early in the day, then you can try again if he doesn't get picked

the above worked for my son-he was 8 yrs old. They don't pick them if they look older than 10yrs or so.

This the strategy we used and DS was picked the first person at the first show:

1. We were front and center at the rope so he was very visible.
2. He had a Star Wars shirt on, the brighter the better. (Toys R Us has bright orange SW Lego shirts)
3. We had a sign, nice and large with a SW saying on it.
4. He screamed like a wild child and jumped up and down

What I noticed about others that were picked:
Children wearing hats, had lightsabers and were waiving them, bright clothes, Jedi robes, etc.

Its not what YOU can do, but its what HE can do. he just needs to be energetic and excited to be picked.

I agree with everything previously said and definitely have him hold a sign (along with being in front, wearing a bright color and acting very excited!). The sign really helps them stand out and be more visible. My DS was picked 3rd on his first try, and 2 out of 3 of those kids had signs. I've seen them work for a lot of people.

THANKS EVERYONE. He can't even stand himself he is so excited, it would be so great if he got picked. Sounds like we'll have to prepare before our big visit

wow, signs?

when we were there last week, there were no kids with signs, no kids with star wars shirts.

they picked all the kids who were jumping up and down waving their hands for the most part, along with a couple of the most adorable toddler types (3 maybe?) that were so nervous.

ds had a WONDERFUL time. we were VERY nervous though. they went through his "side" first and he wasn't selected.....went to the other side and selected twice as many kids....came back and selected the rest from his side where he was the 1st chosen.

we arrived about 20 min early, there were only 3 kids there ahead of us. i think 2 of those 3 got selected.

I've also seen kids picked who were being held up by their parent. And if he wears something bright and crazy, a hat, a shirt something.

Unfortunately I have a very tall 11yr old who has never been picked. I'm sure they think he was too old. We've tried the jumping and waving, we've tried the star wars shirt, he even had his Jedi robe on one time. In about 8 tries, he's never gotten picked. But he sure knows all the moves.

All of the above, & Yes, a SIGN.

Have never heard of a kid who is holding a sign....not get picked.

My girls (4&5) have gotten picked several times. The biggest things that worked for us was lots of jumping and screaming, going to the first show time (they were ALWAYS picked for the first show), and wearing brightly colored outfits. One time they wore these neon fluffy head bands with wiggly balls on the top and the Jedi master talked about them and chose them. I've only been one time where a kid had a sign, but they did get picked. So obviously having a sign must help.

Here's what I'm talking about as far as the headband thing.. we got them at DTD. I think it made them easier to see and helped them stand out.

ETA- I totally agree, Hound. My daughters both fought Darth Maul this last time and my 4yo was a bit scared of him. He looks exactly like the movie character.

kids get to go on stage or in front of stage and learn "jedi" moves. they will borrow and wear a jedi robe and get to use a "practice" light saber.

once they have been "trained" and practiced their moves, they will either get to "fight" darth vador or darth maul.

my son got to fight darth vador on the stage. he also got picked to use his "jedi" powers and "push back" the storm troopers on stage.

the show itself is VERY cute and the CM's do a wonderful job. i was cracking up so many times with the things they were saying.

Yes, I agree, the show was WONDERFUL!!! The CM's were hilarious, particularly the lead guy! My hubby put my son on his shoulders and told him to wave his arms, while hubby jumped up and down...lol! He got picked, first try...although he was nearly last and I was a bit worried!

It's such a fun show, very worth the 20-ish minutes.
