How can I get DD to use the big potty by August?

I can sooooo sympathize with you on this one. I just finished potty training DD2 (she will be 3 April 22)....she was not having it, she wanted nothing to do with the potty. I took her to the store and let her pick out her own big girl panties and she has been going ever since..still no accidents and she is dry at night as well.

Both of my DD's wanted nothing to do with the potty chair. They went straight to the big toilet because that is where mommy and daddy go, so I bought one of those seats that fits inside the hole so they don't fall through.

I have heard that some children refuse to poop in the potty because they feel like they are losing a part of themselves and that scares them. When both DD's pooped in the potty the first time we did a big dance and said and waved good bye to the poo poo as it was being flushed. Now everytime DD2 goes to the potty she says GOOD BYE to whatever it is she is flushing down.

Don't worry, she will get there eventually!!!

I have potty trained 3 girls so far, my 2 year old I started 2 weeks ago and am done - Thank God! I didn't want her in diapers with a new baby coming!

I am pretty tough on this one. My 2nd has a kidney disorder so I have talked to a few specialists; she was 3 and on daily meds for the disorder so I gave it more time, but at 4 it's just a control thing.

What I would do....

Throw/Give away "baby" potty now! (Of course she will scream and fight that but if it's gone, it's gone, she'll get over it if you can get through it!)
Diapers magically leave one day replaced by 20 pairs of pretty panties - Princesses, Dora, etc.
Pull-Ups stay in bedroom for sleep ONLY.
So, it's pretty much poop your pants until you get it (which is alot of work for me but I figure 10 pairs of panties are casualities of training and just toss them if it's really bad). It may sound mean but it seems to work.

I also do reward, 2 smarties for a pee, 5 for a poo and a Chuck E Cheese "Panty Party" upon 1 week accident free! (Dribbles don't count - they are still trying). In her case I would bribe with the WDW trip and explain like the pp said that Mickey, Cinderella, etc. only have big potties and she has to learn to use them before she goes.

To pp re the car - I put a plastic bag down with a towel on top for the 1st 2 days but removed it after that because they usually get it. At 2 they should be able to make it 1 hour between potty breaks, so if you are consistent to go before and after then you should be pretty safe. I hope!

Good Luck!
