DH and i are looking at 7 night cruise, for 2009 using this aug use year 246 points and next aug use year which will have 250 points.

We have given the points for the cruise we are interested in which is 507 points this means we have 11 points short.

How can we get around this.

Go to the rent/trade board and try to have someone transfer 11 points to you. With the new rules of only one transfer per year, it is difficult to get anyone to do transfers for low points value though.

I"m not sure when the cruise is, exactly, but can you bank this year's points, use next year's points, and then borrow from your 2010 UY for the 11 points you need? That only works if the cruise is in the middle UY (if that makes any sense...)

So if we use 08 points and 09 points for a cruise in 09, does that mean we can use 2010 points.

That would be easier, DH was under the impression you could only borrow one one year ahead.

Am I reading this correctly, you have an August use year.
You currently have 246 points in your 2007 use year which you plan to bank into 2008.
In August you will recieve an additional 250 points for your 2008 use year.
You can then borrow the 11 points from 2009.

Or did I read this wrong?

If the cruise is before next August you can only use up to 09 UY points. I think you are saying you have 246 points in the 08 UY and another 250 in 09 UY is that correct?

Also the points total is an odd number this cannot be with two people on a cruise, it will always be an even number for total number of points required :confused3

BTW which cruise are you looking at?

Claire ;)

Claire there is 2 adults and 1 child thats why it is odd (not saying DD is odd lol :rotfl2: )

Yes you are right about the points we have used 2007 UY.

we wuld be using 08/09 UY points.

So DH says to get around this we will try and get a cat 11 room.

Lol about DD, that explains it all! How about paying OOP for her and getting the cabin grade you really want?

Have a look at the DCL website it should give child prices.

Claire ;)

The prices that you get from DVC are not the same as the DCL prices. We are going on a cruise this April that we used points for DH & myself and paid for the kids. It is based on the age of the kid and which cruise it is and the date of the cruise. MS will be able to give you a price.

Would you say DVC prices are better than DCL prices or not?

Claire ;)

No, I think the kid price was slightly higher than when I checked for a third and fourth person price on DCL site. Well, if I remember right my 13 yo was higher and the 10 yo might have been similar. Out of pocket I think I paid around $1900. for a 7 day eastern cruise in April, in a Category 8 room.

Because of the new transfer rules, you may not be able to find someone willing to transfer only 11 points to you. However, you might be able to find someone with 50, 75, 100 or more points. Perhaps you can use the extra points for a night at WDW before or after the cruise.

This next part is going to sound like a tongue twister... banked points cannot be transferred, but transferred points can be banked.

So, if you rent more points than you need for your cruise and don't want to use them in your '08 use year, you can bank them into your '09 UY for a future trip.

Points rent for $10-$11 each.
