We have stayed onsite for all but the visits made when I was a child. Our next trip is now most likely springbreak of 2010 and I will be strapped for cash and need to cut back whereever possible. I have no idea how to find a decent hotel offsite. It will most likely be me and my college age son although a female cousin may come along. She and I can share a bed so we don't need a suite. All my friends stay onsite so I can't go to them for advice. Can someone give me some ideas? I want something cheaper than onsite of course but close enough that we can get to the parking lot in just a few minutes.

There are a whole group of hotel's known as "Good Neighbor's" in the Orlando area...11 total in the Lake Buena Vista area....when you get closer to booking your trip feel free to PM me and I'll gladly send you some brochures that detail the Good Neighbor Hotel Packages....

Hotel? Condo?

IMO a condo is where it's at - it's the best value, even if you spend a few more $$$. I love having my own kitchen & fridge.

I've had a lot of success with www.vrbo.com for accomodations. I don't think we've stayed in a hotel in YEARS. Hmm...trying to remember when it was. LOL!

But how do I know how close they are to WDW? I don't know what to look for as far as location.

Check out www.mousesavers.com. They have a bunch of hotels recommended that are very close to Disney. You can't go wrong with any of them.

Here is one: Buena Vista Suites - like $89 a night for a suite. Right outside the Disney gates.

Good luck and have fun planning!

I also I would google the Orlando magic card which is free. You can get excellent rates through the card. Then I would go to tripadvsior.com and check hotel reviews for the hotel.

Fairfield Inn by Marriott is clean and have free breakfast. Stay there last year for 80.00 dollars a night with the magic card rate. The hotel has free transportation to WDW and US. If stay offsite be sure to have a car.

Do you have Google earth? You can use that to look around the WDW area as well. We always use it just for fun to "check out" the place virtually.

I was looking into the same thing awhile back and kept hearing good things about Best Western lakeside. Clean, nice pool and really good location. You might want to look into that.
