Hi All!

My son's baseball team is looking to create a shot modelled after Band of Brothers. Any suggestions how I can get a similar shot/effect, i.e., with the boys silhouetted/shadowed?

Does not look like it should be all that complicated if you have a stormy looking sky like that to work with. Expose for the sky and people/objects in the foreground will be silhouetted like that. (Most of my shots look thike that not even trying. )

If you shoot in raw you can pull the exposure back some if needed- maybe boost the contrast and lower the saturation a little.

Thanks Jeff! Unfortunately, I'm still at Photography sub-101 level! ;)

What I'm working with: Canon 40D. I expect I'll use the kit lens (18-125, I think)

I also have Photoshop Elements 6.

How do I "expose for the sky"?

Hmmm...now that you mention it, the shots I took of my family in front of the sunset last month DID come out all shadowy like that! :rotfl:

to expose for the sky is to basically adjust exposure settings based on the lightness of the sky. The easiest way to do this is to select spot metering, aim for the sky, press the button halfway and hold it so that it calculates the exposure, then aim it at the team while still holding it half way and then take the picture. You can also just try to shoot it the way you normally would and just adjust the exposure compensation negatively until you get a result you like (i.e., make the EV value negative enough to your liking).

These are the simplest ways.
