charge me peak rate during regular season? Here is the deal; we are staying at the CBR 4/14 through the 21st. After we booked I realized they were charging peak rate even though 4/17-21 falls under regular season.
Disney says they set the rate based on the current rate at check-in, so since we check-in during peak all night are considered peak.
This is our first stay at Disney and it kind of turn me off that they would have such a policy. They are suppose to be guest friendly? Why can't they charge me based on the advertised rate?
Should I make a stink or let it go?
Thanks all.

What you need to do is make two seperate ressies. One for the first part, and one for the second. You can stay at the same hotel, of move to a different one. What ever "season" it is when you check in is the rate you get for the entire trip. Check out Mousesavers.com for more clarification. This works in reverse though too - so if your ressie had been at the end of reg. season overlapping into peak, you'd've gotten the lower rate. When you check in you should tell the front desk (if you have two ressies at the same hotel) You'll still have to visit the front desk to check out/in, but they may let you keep the same room.

Disney's policy has always been to charge the rate for the season of the checkin day for the entire stay.

You can easily get around this by making 2 reservations - one for each season.

This also works in your favor if you check in during value season, say, before Christmas, and you trip extends into the higher priced Holiday season.

There is an article or two on Mousesavers about this seasonal policy.

Yes I recommend doing what the others suggested. Sometimes it works in your favor, sometimes it doesn't. The DIS shows you a way that you can save yourself some money instead of rescheduling your trip to take advantage of the lower rates.

We were told that to "get around it" we would have to make to separate reservations but...and her is what we were told;
"if I cancel your current reservation you may lose your spot at this resort" and "you will most likely have to change rooms".

Who would want to change rooms 1/2 way through the vacation?

They tell you that but not too many have ever had to move. Tell them when you check in that you have a continuing reservation.

But if I was saving money and all I had to do is move then I would.

I wouldn't cancel the current reservation until you had the new reservation.

What exactly does that mean "you may lose your spot at this resort"?

I assume that if the resort is full and I cancel my current reservation then I might not get a room?????

Just call up, make the new reservation-split in 2. Then cancel the old one. That way you have no worry about the resort being full and not getting your room. You won't have to switch rooms. It's so rare, I've never heard it happening to anyone. We've split our reservations before and never had to switch rooms. In fact, we checked out, then couldn't go home cause there was a blizzard so we were 'stuck' in Disney another 3 nights. We went to the front desk that afternoon, told them what happened, and they gave us our old room back at the same rate we were paying. We were told our room may have been given away already, but if not we could have it back, and it was not, so bell services moved our stuff back to the room. So if they were willing to go out of their way to give us a room we already checked out of, they'll keep you in the same room for 2 reservations.

Justhat here is the problem;

We booked with a Travel Agent months ago a paid in full to them, cash. To make a new reservation or the split we would have to charge on a cc. I think we would have to wait until disney refunded the TA before we got our money back. Also I believe that because we are only 4 weeks away there would be some cancelation fees which would wipe out any savings.

Also here is another disturbing thing we learned. I just went on line to the disney site and went though the program which gives you a price for a disney vacation. I entered all of the same information; 2 adults, 2 children, 7 nights, CBR...ect. the price on the website was $200 less than through the TA. According to the TA they booked my vacation through disney and did not mark anything up. The TA called disney for an explanation and disney told her its too late to change anything now. Between the issue with the rates and now this I'm thinking I've been robbed of about $320.

For a place that is supposed to bend over backwards for the guest I feel like I'm the one bending over. So far I'm not happy about this vacation.

That's rough... I booked my vacation via phone with Disney then made all my payments online and everything went through fine. Do you think the price difference was the taxes added in compared to your price quote online?

I think you need more details from your travel agent. Do you have a package that is preventing you from changing? If you have room only you can change almost up to the last minute.

Make sure you are comparing apples to apples when you are looking at the prices. There might be something that isn't added on when you check the website.

Hey safetymom,
Looks like we posted about the same time. I actually didn't see your post but its funny we both used the apples to apples statement.
It was booked as a package, room and tickets. I pretty sure the TA said there would be cancelation fees.
I guess live and learn but that hurts.

Yes, I think for a package you have to cancel 45 days in advance, so if it's within that then there would be a fee. But I think the fee is $200 (not sure cause we don't have a package booked), so if you're paying $320 more then you'd still save $120 by changing your reservation. Of course, if you can't transfer your money already paid to the new reservations, then I don't really know what to do. But see if you can do that. I would definitely ask your TA to get you the cheaper rate. I have never heard of Disney not honoring a lower rate when it becomes available. Also, if you really can't do anything about it now, when you check in, see if they can split your reservation up to get the 2 rates. It can't hurt to try and hopefully they'll be able to help you if no one else can. Good luck!
