How can anyone not enjoy themselves at WDW??

So people seriously think those who don't llloooovvveee Mickey are pessimistic stick in the muds? :lmao:

I like Mickey and visiting the mouse is a lot of fun for my family, but to make broad statements to say people who think those who don't enjoy being in a packed park and waiting 2 hours to see plastic figures go round and round are killjoys is a little insane. It's as bad as saying people don't need to visit Europe because Epcot has all the countries represented. :lmao:

Some people actually don't like Disney World and they get through life just fine (and have a positive outlook on life as well). ;)

Give yourself room. Rather than seeing how many people you can get into one room, maybe more rooms is the answer. Our last trip was for 12 nights and we stayed in the Grand Villas @ the BW. Lots of room but we still were always together. Our trip this year will be spent in 3 rooms, better for everyone.

I read one post that said they were too old to stay on property, these were teenagers. I hope I never get that old, I'm almost 60. My DW and I spent a week here for our 25th anniversary, it was great.

You expect me, an 18 yr old (17 and 15 on last trips respectively) to sleep with my 22 yr old sister? Seriously? Aside from the fights, its just wrong on so many levels.

More than one room was never an option for us. We arent that well off, and it is insanely expensive for us brits to stay on property. Just dont assume that we didnt stay on property as we are sour grapes, nor that I diparage anyone who does, just that for some people it is not possible, and thus is not a prerequisite for having fun, unless you are suggesting that as we stay off property (close by in I-Drive) we cant enjoy disney as much as you?

If you cant afford the expense, staying off site is just as much fun. Assuming that kids will hate it is just wrong. When I was a kid I stayed off site and loved it. You may say that it was because I didnt know any better, but I say it was because I knew we COULDNT get any better on our budgets. Knowing that this is the most you will experience in terms of accomodation makes you enjoy the parks much more.

I knew a very frugal family who went and didn't enjoy themselves because all they saw was $$$. Even on the little stuff.

This is exactly what would have happened to my brother and his family if I had not taken him aside and said, "Listen, make no mistake. As wonderful as WDW is, they want to separate you from your money. Just shut up, open your wallet, and everyone will have a splendid time." And they did! :thumbsup2
Now they're "believers" and go every year. Whoop!:goodvibes

I also don't think Disney is an expensive vacation. The room rates are high, but there are ways to budget and have fun.

Definately. Eating off site is really helpful, particularly brekkie - stops you snacking and frees up money for drinks.

Also, buying one really good thing for $30 is much better than 3 bad things for $10. Last trip all I bought was a pewter cup from germany in epcot for $80. usually i spend at least 50-60 dollars on rubbish so I just stopped that and got something really good instead.

Cheers me up on a dull day too.

I so totally agree. My DH hates WDW. So he chooses not to go with us. He is none of the things that people are saying in this thread. He is the most fun loving guy a family could want....except when it comes to not only Disney, but ANY theme park.

I think it's just a personality thing..the people who hate it tend to be the cynical, pessimistic types, IMO. Meaning, when the see a little kid overjoyed to see Mickey, they'll say "isn't it horible how Disney brainwashes people?:lmao:". They also tend to be the types who are unable to just let go and have fun...they're too worried about what others may think. And the cheapskate people? I think they're the saddest of all. Life is for living, not for squeezing every last penny until it screams.

And sure, everyone likes different stuff. I'd be bored silly on a cruise or a trip to Vegas, for example.

I have one friend who is both of those!! very cheap and very cynical. He HATES all things Disney. I've said to his wife and other friends, we'll will plan a trip in a few years when all of there kids are 3-4 years old and leave some of the grumpy hubbies at home.

We have neighbors from when we lived in MI. They went with us twice some years ago for our annual Drinking Around the World trip. Was a long weekend over MLK day (before we had kids). While they enjoyed themselves - they have no desire to ever return to Disney. They saw it, they did it and have no need for a repeat. They aren't cynical or stick in the mud's - they would just rather go someplace else - camping or to a cabin up north.

I can totally understand why some people ask the question "Again??" as we get it all the time. Disney is expensive (even with discounts and budgeting), some people don't understand the appeal of doing the same thing over and over (even though Disney is seldom the same experience twice), it can be hot and crowded...its not for everyone and there's nothing wrong with that.

I love Disney as much as the next addict (3-4 trips a year for the last 12 years), but I also understand that I'm in the minority. The average American gets 1 week of vacation a year - some people prefer the mountains or the beach. Nothing wrong with it.

I feel badly for people who only get to come in the hottest or most crowded part of the year - that can definitely leave a negative impression of WDW and if that is the only time you've ever been or can go - its a shame, but its reality. There are a million reasons people wouldn't enjoy Disney - sometimes its unfortunate circumstances and sometimes its just not their thing.

I have a friend that went with her family(dh, ds, 2dd's) for the first time during free dining in Aug. When they got home they couldn't complain enough! Too many people, too hot, bad service. They will never go back. Probably for the best, we don't need anymore cranky people there when we go. lol We on the other hand love it so much, we can't imagine going anywhere else. :woohoo:

I agree. Why is it so hard to get that people have different tastes? They're not wrong just different.

aye, its an odd phenomena. Any one who doesnt like Disney must have done it wrong, mustnt of planned, must have gone on the wrong day, it must have been too hot, they musnt have researched it enough, musnt have used the FP's properly etc..etc.. I mean after all had they done it properly how possibly could then not like it :)

It never occurs to some people that others just dont like the same things as they do. Thats a good thing or else 1) the world would be a boring place 2) it would be even more expensive to go there and 3) it would be even more crowded.

I know some won't like this but I'll say it anyway. The ADR nazis/park commandos have literally killed the idea of a spontaneous and relaxing Disney vacation unless your family has the ability to go off season. If you are a fly by the seat of your pants kind of traveller, going to Disney during spring break or Christmas is a recipe for disaster.

Perhaps this is part of the reason some dislike Disney vacations so immensly. Some (I would guess most) people go on vacation to relax. Disney is not that kind of vacation.

I would love to go back to the days of walking up to a restaurant and having a nice relaxing dinner.

We lived in South Florida for 25 years and raised our daughter there. My husband wasn't into much of anything except his beer and his drinking pals. He told me birthdays and holidays were just another day. He went to WDW with us just once, never again. Not to be deterred, I would take DD to WDW as often as I could, just the two of us. We had a blast.

Years later, my husband died. I moved out of state. These days, DD and I will go visit husband's grave, then go to WDW as often as possible. Not much has changed.

Totally agree. It seems like they polarise travellers into

Planners
No planning.

You can plan but still go with the flow. ADR's never really affect me as I like only counter service, not a big fan of intn'l food or seafood or steak etc. However, if I was, it would really annoy me if I discovered everywhere was pre booked. They should keep a good proportion free for wander in travellers, even those who stay on site but dont have reservations.

And yet, many sites that inform about WDW and many travel guides also dont mention that you really need these to get into a resteraunt, so its small wonder that those who dont go on forums like this dont know about it.

I completely get how people can be turned off by the crowds, the heat, the cost. And some people just don't get the magic. I can understand the first reasons, but the lack of respect for the "magic" is disappointing to me. I always feel a connection with people who "get it."

Why do you consider going at spring break or xmas with no planning a recipe for disaster. We have been at WDW for the last 9 xmas and new years in all those trips we never once planned which park or which restuarant to eat in,
we usually just catch the 1st bus to whichever park we didnt go to, the day before, works fine for us.
