with the celebration kicking off the following week I imagine it will be light....anyone have any ideas?

This is my first post! Hi!

We will be there the full week prior to the start of the Diamond Celebration, May 10 - 15. Booked months ago. Myself, and my 5 year old. While I'm a bit disappointed to just miss it, that feeling is being replaced by relief. The parks will be beautiful, rides back open, ready to go, and even if it's not significantly less crowded, it will not be the madhouse that the first days of the celebration will be, I'm sure.

I'm bummed for ME. Nostalgic 43 year old wants to see those things, and I'll be sad to miss them. 5 year old visiting Disneyland for the first time is going to be just as thrilled either way. When she gets tired and needs to go back to the hotel and miss the fireworks show, for example, it will be much easier for me to deal with it, hehe. The pressure is off. Perhaps we'll get some surprises, and sneak peeks. If not, we are going to have a wonderful time anyway.

I hope that everyone else is madly changing their plans to be there on the 22nd! :)

We are going the 14 to the 17 of May and I just told my husband I want to go back the 22-24 of May for my Birthdaty:thumbsup2 luckily its only a 5 1/2 hour drive and we have PAPs

Something called work gets in the way for between the 2 trips so I will just have to deal with it:)

There is the CA Democratic Convention happening at the Anaheim Convention Center that weekend, though I don't know if it really impacts DLR.

The only other things I can see that might up attendance in the parks is that the original end date for Frozen Fun was May 15. I've seen April 30 is the new/latest end date for Olaf's Snow Fest, but I don't know if May 15 is still the project end date for Freeze the Night and the Sing-A-Long.

May 15 is also the last Friday that SoCal Select AP holders get until August 28. However, it's not the start of the summer blockout for SoCal and SoCal Select APs.

Overall, I suspect crowds will be manageable...especially on Thursday. I think that there might be crowds on Friday, primarily Friday evening just because it's a Friday evening.

Slight hi-jack here:

Did you really say that Olaf will be gone April 30th! My DD and I are running in the TinkerBell 1/2 Marathon and will be there May 7-11th. Just last night my DD mentioned how excited she is to see Olaf. She said she read where it was to go to May 15th. I just need to know so I can buffer the expectation.

TIA

To be honest, I don't know if the closure of Olaf's Snow Fest means just the building/snow play ground or if it means everything associated with that location. The AP flyer that arrived this week, lists April 30th as the last day for Olaf's Snow Fest.

Thanks! I will mention that Olaf won't be there and then she can be surprised and thrilled if he is.

 You guys! I've been excited that nobody else was going them, it's the only month without a check in thread (besides the tinker bell run) nobody else say they are going... please lol:sad:

Check in threads only happen when someone asks the mods and wants to start one. While folks may not have said, I'm sure there will be a fair number of folks going down for the Memorial Day weekend. So don't take the lack of a May check-in thread to mean that May will be a completely quiet month.

We are planning on being there the 11-16 (we will go 5 of the 6 days and have one break day). I have no idea what to expect with crowds. 3 grad nights in there, but the week before the 60th. We have gone in Oct (crazier than we were expecting and super short hours) and Dec (crazy and manageable due to longer hours). No clue what to expect that week in May!

I am one of those people that just changed my dates from May 17-18 to May 24-26 so I can see the new entertainment. I'm lucky that I'm only coming from NorCal and can easily change my dates.

Perhaps there will be more people like me changing their dates. Bad for me because of the increased crowds, but I'm expecting that with the new announcements anyway. But, hopefully that's good for the OP!

@adSimba

OH! Ummm ... I've heard that they are releasing several swarms of bees into the park that week, and also most of the princesses will be out of town at the Annual Princess and Sidekick Convention in Texas. What a pity our trip will be such a disappointment! *dramatic swoon*

Also, a meteor is heading that way. IN MAY.

:thumbsup2

Thanks, Canuck! I have been a lurker and info-gatherer for a few months now. I was waiting until after the announcement to start posting. I have about ten thousand questions. :)

(I am also your neighbor just across the border, by the way. Bellingham!)

We have been playing with dates in May.... Since we are aiming to buy the So Cal Select passes we will be there only during the week.
Im trying to push it off as far as possible for the most days to save so we finally decided on 18 - 21. We will be arriving on the 17 and check in to the hotel and eat and walk around at Downtown Disney then be in the parks M-Th and leave mid day. Only one grad night on Monday. I'm hoping since most schools aren't out yet and people gearing up for the 60th (and Memorial Day Weekend) the crowds may not be too bad. FINGERS CROSSED!

I'll be there after the Disney Wonder Panama Canal cruise that ends in San Diego on the 15th. Hoping most everything will be accessible as it will likely be my one and only visit to DL. Fingers crossed.
