How busy mid August?

We are thinking of planning our next trip Aug 13-23. We have never gone this time of year before, although we have been over Christmas and Spring Break when it was very crowded.

I was hoping this part of August might not be as busy as the rest of the summer since alot of kids go back to school the 1st 2 weeks of the month.

Anyone have experience this time of year? I am assuming it is very very hot then also?

From what I have read, I would definitely think that the dates you are planning on in August would have moderate crowds. Many schools, especially in the south, start back in August. (We start back Aug 16.) If you are used to the really crowded times, like spring break, then you should definitely see a difference in crowds.

The only other thing that you will need to consider is the difference in temperatures in August vs. March/April and December. Depending on your tolerance for heat, you may need to take breaks in the afternoon to avoid the hottest time of the day.

BTW, what dates were you at WDW during Christmas. I ask because we are planning on visiting Dec 18-23. Just wondering if you experienced the pre-Christmas crowds or Christmas-New Year's week.

Thanks for your info!

We found that the weekend before Christmas things really started to pick up. Of course Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were crazy busy. The weekdays before that weekend were very slow. We left for home the day after Christmas, so I don't know if it was busy between Christmas and New Years. I would suspect that it was.

We're going back again that same time frame this year. We were there last year from the 15-23. It was hot, humid and horribly rainy. The crowds were manageble. I was prepared for those daily thundershowers. But, after 3 days, we got huge storms everyday from about 3:00 until late evening. Tremendous lightening also. A lot of the attractions that have water involved shut down due to the lightening. This made the indoor attractions even more crowded. But, from what I understand, those rain storms were very unusual. So, back we go again. I did go in Dec from the 12-17. I just couldn't take the chillyness. The day we left it was sunny but the windchill made it feel about 40 degrees!! Think I'll stick with the heat/humidity.

How to deal with that heat/humidity?? Go early in the morning. Leave the parks mid-day for something to eat and a swim. Go back to the parks late afternoon. Drink a lot of water....even if you're not thirsty. Duck into airconditioned shops or attractions frequently. Rest those poor feet regularly. Change your shoes when you go back to your resort mid-day. Sloooooow down. Take your time. Don't try to do it all, see it all. Most of all...have fun.

Average Daily High & Low at WDW In August: :sunny:

92 & 73

Average Monthly Rainfall: 6.8 inches. :umbrella:

I'll be there in August too! ::MickeyMo

We'll be there the exact same dates! We're staying near MCO the first night since we don't fly in until about 6:00 p.m., then the 14th will be our first full day at WDW.

I'm also hoping it won't be too crowded and that the rain won't be as heavy as I heard it was last year. I'm sure we'll have a great time regardless!:D

we were there also during all the RAIN, it was awful. the summer before we went around the 3 -4 week and it was good weather but i think that was FTP year and it was MOBBED. the summer before in the middle of Aug. was perfect. it was hot but lines were not bad, crowds were a little better. we dont go back till after labor day.
