I have heard some reports of it taking people ages to get to Disney as this road can get quite busy?

Is there any truth to this?

I am still trying to work out where we will be staying and some of the resorts i have looked at are just off this road.

Thanks,:goodvibes

Yes, at various times of day it can be a heavily traveled road, particularly in the immediate Disney area. I have experienced it first hand while traveling off site to restaurants in the area.

This is one of the big problems when staying off site and away from the magic....traffic..it can happen anytime, anywhere in any city!

You may want to look into the WDW value resorts...lots of deals and pins out there

What ever you do.....have a great vacation!

Thanks.

I always stay off site, it's just that I have never stayed in that area before.

Part of the problem with 535 and I also noticed this with International Drive is that the traffic lights stay red for a long time, so when it's very busy that causes even more of a backup of cars.

I was there last month and I guess Jan is less crowded than February thru June cause I had no major problem. I believe its what traffic you are used to. On Long Island bumper to bumper traffic is somewhat normal so I had no big problem with the traffic in Orlando but your comfort zone may be different.

We stayed on Palm Parkway and traveled on 535 to WalMart, Dunkin Donuts, Applebees, Red Lobster by Goodings-also Mcdonalds in there,to Hotel Blvd to the parks, and up to Sand Lake Road all without major delays. But as I said late January seems to be a quiet time.

On 535, you'll have lights, shopping centers, gas stations, etc. 4 or 5 lanes across, with left turn lanes. Inevitably someone wants to get into the left turn lane, or vice versa, which slows down the lanes even more.

We will never use the 535 exit ever again, we'll drive a bit further and go into the main entrance. Usually you can just turn right onto a main road from the highway, go through the large Disney World entrance and be on your way!

There is really only about a two mile stretch of 535 that gets extremely busy at times......the area between World Center Drive (536)to a little bit to the north of Palm Parkway. However, at certain times of day and certain days of week that stretch can be horrible......I4 runs right thru there....so you've got people getting on/off I4....people getting off the Greenway (417)from the airport onto World Center Drive and most people also drive that route to get to the Premium Outlet Mall....which is busy no matter what time of day you head that way. I actually would prefer to use 535 to get to other areas like Universal and Sea World........if you turn onto Palm Parkway from 535 you will come out very near Sea World w/o getting on I4 at all.....same with Universal......we go all the way up 535 and then cut across W. Sand Lake and turn left on International Drive to Universal.....takes no more time than fighting the traffic on I4.

Watch out on Saturday afternoons, we got stuck in a huge traffic jam with people going to the Shrine for mass. We were trying to get to Publix. Ended up doing a U-Turn and went to Walmart (I had taken 536 from Boardwalk and turned left).
