DH and I are contemplating going to DL for the first time next year. We are thinking around Memorial Day week. I know that anytime you go to Disney around holidays it is going to be busy, but exactly HOW busy is this time of year?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you can go the week before Memorial Day it would be much better. Memorial Day weekend is essentially the start of the summer season. Early May is great - low crowds.

We went this last May, the weekend of, I think it was the 14th. It was a great time to go. Sat. morning we did all of fantasyland with very little waiting. It got busy each evening with what seemed to be local teens. Wait times were good and the teens were all under control.:goodvibes

I'll be there memorial day weekend and the following week. One thing that affects crowds is a new show or ride opening and next May the new Little Mermaid ride is on the calendar to open. But dates have a tendency to slip at DLR so keep your fingers crossed! If you're there the same weekend as me I may run into you! I'll be the one wearing shorts and a t-shirt! If you see me come up and say "Hi"!

LOL!!!! I wish there was another time that DH and I could go. I would love to see DL at Christmas. I hope May turns out to be a good time with not TOO crazy crowds.

I was there this year starting the Wednesday before Memorial Day through Monday. The crowds were absolutely no problem, even on Saturday and Sunday. They did get progressively heavier as the weekend went on, but there was still little wait in most lines even on Sunday. And it sure beats dealing with the heat and crowds of mid summer. I hope to be back there same time next year.

We went Memorial Day weekend in 2008 and were pleasantly surprised by how not crowded it was. The park was by no means empty but very doable, and the weather was lovely. It was one of our best short trips.

I went in late May last year and the crowds were eh. The wait time for Nemo, BTHM, California Screamin, TOT, and TTMM, were insane. I hope your lines are better then ours.

The last couple of years we've gone the week right after mothers day and the parks were very pleasant.

we went for a week last year starting May 2nd. It was fine, Nemo was crazy but other than that we were fine ;) It was our first time going when it wasn't the holidays and crowds were better..

We went over Memorial Day this year. Using the UG touring plan, we found it very, very doable. (and it was our first visit) It did get busy one afternoon, as school was off that day in LA. I'm sure a week before would be better, but we still really enjoyed ourselves.

IMO May is the best off-season month to visit DLR. Here is why:

1. Warmer weather but not that warm yet

2. Low chance for rain

3. Most of the refurbs are done in prep for summer

However, it is still off-season which has its downsides. See "What You Should Know About Off-Season at DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18462889

May 2011 is rumored to be the time that the new Little Mermaid ride and updated Star Tours ride will come online, in addition to the re-themed Goofy's Sky School at DCA. If history is a guide this will happen late in the month (i.e., Memorial Day weekend) or possibly slide into June as did World of Color this year.
