How blazing hot end of August?

For what it's worth....websites like weather.com and accuweather always list the "feels like" temp (or "real feel") on the main forecast page for each city. That "feels like" temp is either the heat index or windchill depending on the area/time of year.
Thanks. I use weather.com daily and just looked at it again and sure enough there it is. As you said they call it "feels like" and not heat index or wind chill. As I said, I sometimes look at it but usually ignore it.

I think we have talked this out pretty thoroughly, but wanted to add one point. I remember back in college in my freshman introduction to computer programming class that we had to write a program to calculate wind chill factor. This would have been in...cough, cough...1981. There was a formula for it of which I do not remember the specifics. A few years later it was discovered the wind chill factor formula which had been in use for who knows how many decades, or even centuries, had an error in it (gasp!). People had been relying on a flawed indicator for years!

So some time in the 80's or 90's a new formula was created.

That this could even happen made me then and today highly skeptical of heat indexes and wind chills. Ever since then I have stuck with stuff one can measure objectively (like temperature, wind speed and humidity) and not more subjective parameters such as "feels like" (which might have errors in it).

With that I promise to drop the subject. For now. ;)

Along the way it sounds like we have managed to convince the OP and my fellow Coloradoan to shoot for June. Should we now turn to the subject of June gloom? :rotfl:

I am glad we have our difference preferences or we would all be at the parks at the same time of year! For us summer is king at Disney parks. Wearing shorts and tee shirts, swimming, water rides with no fear of getting wet, that is part of our experience. The thought of bundling up at a Disney park seems so unappealing. :)

I created a weather comparison here (based on temperatures and not heat index ;)):

"Comparison of Weather For WDW and DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1711098

We really cannot tolerate Florida weather in the peak summer so our two trips have been early summer.

We can take Anaheim weather any day of summer. But for the occasional really hot days I agree it can get uncomfortable even for us "heat lovers". But we have been lucky on our last four summer trips and never had a day like that. Most of the summer days we have been have been it has been low-to-mid 80's. Just perfect for us. ::yes::

For me....I love, love, love to bundle up (although compared to how I dress in the midwest in January, it's not really that bundled) at Disneyland. We get hot chocolate and people watch. So for people oike me, that's part of the Disneyland experience.

Well, I don't know how accurate the current formula is for things like windchill and heat index is. But I can say a few weeks ago when it said it felt like negative 25....I believed it! It was pretty miserable...haha. I like cold weather, but that was a bit much.

I think this is great!:goodvibes Most people, when they talk about the weather, it is just to break the ice or fill some gaps in conversation and find some common ground. But here on DISboards, we really talk about the weather and get into full in-depth discussions of it, as we do with all subjects that come up on DIS! It is hard to make weather a really exciting topic for the average person, but for some reason, on DIS it's a hot topic!! :lmao: I think that's awesome! At least any new people who come to this board to learn about DLR or just to share their love of DLR with like minded people know that everyone is very well-thought out and passionate in their opinions! No empty heads over here! This is much more than a 'Hey, I really love Disneyland, Space Mountain is really cool" type of board.

As HydroGuy pointed out (oh, and thanks HydroGuy, for posting the WDW/DLR comparison in temps - I never had a sense of what WDW would be like in December and now I have some idea), it's good that there are divided weather camps. In fact, thank the heavens for that, because if we ALL liked going to DLR at the same times of year during the same seasons, no one would be able to move in the parks or enjoy them at all!! It would be like New Year's Eve crowds, but 10,000 times worse, every single day!

So for now, I will be out on the tundra with Gisele or bundling up near Lucy and her family in DLR, sipping cocoa and enjoying wintry treats!:goodvibes

Weather, crocs, baggalinis, dining options, best month of the year, best day of the week, height requirements, PhotoPass, Fastpass...nothing around here is immune from being talked to death. :)

Oh no...don't get me started on crocs! Haha...:rotfl:

Yep! And because it is the What Will You Celebrate? year, let us not forget the great debates that have been had over the issue of whether or not it is acceptable for people to get and wear birthday buttons on days that are NOT the actual birthdays!!

The summers out here have been getting hotter and longer. We were in the parks last June and it was 107!!! The babies all got heat rash.

I'm not a fan. But I really don't like wearing any shoes without socks. I stick with tennis shoes.

Me too! I just got them to wear around the pool here since I dont like getting my flip flops wet :rotfl: I'm weird

That makes sense. I just can't imagine walking around the parks all day in shoes like crocs (they remind me of jellies from the 80's) or even flip flops.

Poor babies! Heat rash. In 107 degree weather, I not only probably would have joined them bebe's in the heat rash gang, but I probably would have :faint: too! OMG! (Shudder)

But really the things that come to mind are dirty feet and sweat By LucyDingo

:faint: Seriously though, now that is rather gross and yucky. he he!

Did you ever wear jellies? If you did...you know exactly what I'm talking about. I was little when I wore them...maybe around 7 years old or so. I cannot imagine wearing something like that as an adult. And yet I see tons of adults in crocs. :confused3

Jumping into this thread - it seems to have been beaten to death already BUT I need to ask how humid it 'feels' - if they say it's 85 what would it 'feel like'?? we have plans to head to DL sometime in the first 2 weeks of August this year - will avoid weekends as I'm sure they are busy - we've done DW in August before and vowed never again due to crowds, grumpy hot people and all those hot sweaty bodies..... it was gross!!
We're from Southern Ontario so are used to hot hot humid summers - like 80 out but feels more like 100+ - I was always under the impression from my 105.5yr old great aunt who lives very close to DL that the heat was much drier in california. Are we choosing a bad time to do Cali/DL?? the heat wouldn't really bother us too much if it's a fairly dry heat or even a bit humid is ok as long as it's not as bad as DW would be.

I don't believe that I have ever worn jellies before as a child, and I most definitely do not wear them as an adult. he he! My sister wore them, when she was an ankle biter. I do not know though, how she liked them. She never really said anything. I remember them as being cute though. :)
Poor jellies, so maligned, maybe we should organize a support group for them? ha ha! ;)

Well, how hot it feels depends on how humid it is. If the humidity is only 15%, it won't feel too much hotter than 85. But starting at 50 or 60% and going up...it's going to feel warmer, and warmer. Here in the midwest, we get humidity of 95% and 100% and it's pretty miserable. It's typically not that bad in Anaheim though.

In August in Anaheim, if you turn on the weather channel and it says it's 85 degrees out, there's a good chance it's going to feel like 90 degrees or even 95. I don't know but I'm guessing the humidity in Anaheim is August is probably closer to 60% or so. Not sure what it's like where you live.
