How big is your 9yo feet?

Is my dd a freak? My dd has gone from a size 4 to a 6 and 1/2 -7 women's size shoe. in only 3 months. Is this normal. i wasn't a 7 when I graduated high school. I am now a 9 because I had her and gained 90 pounds. My husband isn't a big man (5' 7")and his foot is about the size of mine.

DD grew from a size 5 last April to a size 8 1/2 this April. She will be 11 next month. She seemed to go from a 5 to a 6 then a 7 very quickly, and then from a 7 to an 8 1/2 in a few months.

How funny! I just returned from buying dd9 a pair of backless sneakers (wouldn't consider anything else!) Size 5 1/2, up from a 2 only 4 months ago. I thought she was freaky, but maybe it is normal? I only wear an 8 1/2!

My niece went from size 5 to size 9 last year (she was 11). When we studied human development, we learned that girls feet grow before their big pre-puberty growth spurt (or early on during it). Then their feet stay close to the same size into adulthood. Hope so, because my niece, at 5 foot 4, would look REALLY silly in size 11 shoes, lol.

I'm starting to think my DD who will be 8 tomorrow is strange, her feet are a size 13. I was hoping she had finally made it into the 1's but, on our shopping trip last night, and she is still measuring a 13. And, she isn't short, so I just don't get it.

My daughters surprise me as well..they are 10 and 12 (13 in Sept)....and the 10 yo is in 6 1/2 womens and 12 is 8!!!! I am a 9 or 9 1/2 myself......

Side note:.....and I know this caused lots of controversy...but my dd12....recently "started".....Can't believe how this time flies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My 8 1/2 yo dd wears a women's 6 1/2 too! She is pretty tall. I always laugh when her friends come over and take their shoes off and they are about the same size as my 4 yo dd's! I only wear an 8 so I don't know where it is coming from.

Don't sweat it. My dd who will be 8 in a couple of weeks only wears about a 13 too. But once that huge foot growth spurt happens, life gets expensive. My oldest (12 now) went through THREE pairs of Irish Dancing shoes (the hard shoes, which cost over $100) last year. She began last dance year in size 5 womens shoes (which apparently correspond to size 3 1/2 girls shoes, figure THAT one out!!) and now is in size 8's.

When my DD was 9 and we were school clothes shopping, she went from shoe size to shoe size because everything was too small. We stopped at a women's 7 1/2. I couldn't believe it. She's now 12 and wears an 8 1/2.

My niece turned 8 in January. At that time she was a size 3 and now she is wearing a 7.

Don't freak too much! My DD is ten and I just went through this recently. I had her at lady footlocker and about fell over when they measured her at a ladies 6.5. She walked into the store with a kids size 4 tennis shoe on at the time! What I was told is that a child's size 4 is actually about the same as a ladies size 6. They showed me a shoe chart that had the foot measured in inches and sure enough!! There is some overlapping on kids sizes/woman's shoes.

If I remember correctly, a child's 5 is the same as a woman's 7 1/2. Why do they do that, I wonder?

My 12 year old son wears a size 13 mens shoe. When he turns 13 in February I think I will need to apply for a new zip code to accomodate his feet.

At the beginning of the school year we went shopping for DS (7) and imagine our surprise when we measured his feet at a size 2. The shoes he was wearing were a 13 Not once did he tell his that his feet hurt or his shoes were too small. The shoes he was wearing were only 4 months old!

Fear not! Sudden foot growth generally precedes a height growth spurt. After all, you can't keep a tall body from falling forward without big enough feet to keep it straight!

I remember when I was 11 and my shoe size jumped from 7 1/2 to 9 during the summer. My Mom had my feet measured at three different shoe stores before she believed it. I was only 5 ft. 4 at the time.

By Christmas I was 5 ft. 7!

My DD went through the same thing last year, and my DS just went through it.

Don't freak out. It happens sometimes. When I was 10, I outgrew 11!!! pairs of shoes during that school year. ELEVEN! About a year and a half later, my mom bought me these snazzy lace up boot thingies one day and the next day, they didn't fit because my feet grew overnight.

So no..your DD is not a freak.

I wish I would have read this a week ago!

Took DD shoe shopping and I was freaking out. She started the school year in a 4 1/2, so I thought it was only natural that she'd be in a women's 5 or 5 1/2. I was going crazy trying to find something to fit that kid until a sales clerk finally told me that the 4 was the equivalent of a women's 6, and she measured DD's feet at 7! My baby's growing up.

And there go the days of $30-40 kids sneakers.
