How bad will it be Christmas week?

Hi everyone!

I should preface this by saying that my husband, kids (17 and 15), and myself, are huge Disney fans. We've gone frequently with the kids and we are toying with the idea of going down next year on our breaks. I know that it'll be crowded and I know that it'll be expensive, but we don't celebrate Christmas but we all want to see the parks decorated. It's been a dream of mine for years and now that my kids are older, they want to too. My son will turn 19 while down there and we just think it would be a fun thing to do to celebrate. I told the family not to expect the same type of trip we have had other years. It may be slower paced, not as many big rides that we usually go on, and maybe more resort hopping. But be honest with me, what else can you tell me about Christmas week there? Thanks!
Very busy but fun. Christmas joy everywhere
Enjoy

The problem with LLMP (especially at HS) is that availability is tough even when not at max capacity, so you should really only count on whatever you can book at the start of your reservation window. MK has more rides, but even there multiple headliners may be a challenge if not booked well in advance. So it’s better than nothing, but I’m not sure how much better. Maybe save your money and focus on rope dropping and closing out the parks?

This is where one really starts to think about why Premier Pass exists.

I have a pixie dust pass and these are my blockout dates.
Are Pixie Dust AP holders able to make park reservations for Sat and Sun if they are staying at a Disney resort and checking in on Sunday and out on Saturday? (Or in on Sat and out on Sun for that matter?)

No, pixie pass is blocked out every weekend and holidays
Ah, so no overriding the blockout rules by staying at a DVC property. But you are able to make a reservation for any and all green dot days that fall within your resort stay without limit, correct?

Yes, staying on property does not override the blackout dates for your pass but it does allow you to have more than 5 park reservations on a rolling basis - the park reservations made during a Disney resort stay don't count against your limit of 5 reservations.

Thank you for clarifying. Very helpful. I am considering migrating from a Sorcerer’s Pass to a Pixie Dust Pass and want to make sure I understand the trade-offs.

We went last year for 20-27. Until the 25th it wasn’t bad actually. Just do LL and have dining reservations and you’ll be good
Great advice, had the same experience. I don't know if we did the right thing, but we avoided MK on the 25th. Also fully agree with LL and dining reservations (and stay flexible!).

Are you a Florida resident? As you're probably aware the pixie dust pass is only sold to Florida residents.

You’ll lose every Saturday and Sunday, Friday isn’t considered a weekend.

There was a time when dh and I had pixie and ds had sorcerer. There was 1 or 2 differences in holiday.

Aware, but thank you. We closed on a condo in Naples on Nov 12. Before that no, but we are DVC so we have Sorcerer Passes. They expire 1/26 so we are trying to figure out where we go from here.

Thank you. A typical WDW trip for us involves arriving Sunday afternoon and staying till the following Saturday morning. If I am understanding correctly, we can still enter the parks after 2p even on weekends; the only access we would lose with Pixie then is Saturday morning. Even if I am not understanding correctly, the Pixie still seems to be a good choice given our travel pattern.
