How bad is the tame MS version?

For someone that can be prone to motion sickness how bad is the newer version? I always take a Bonine every morning before heading in the parks and am OK on the coasters and even TOT but it's the whole vision thing I'm sort of worried about. You know how things can mess with your eyes and that makes you dizzy? I really want to try it out but I'm worried about feeling crappy the rest of the day! :crazy2:

I have not been on the new, tamer version of Mission:Space, but from what I hear, it does not spin at all, the pod you are in just tilts, so I think you should be OK. :thumbsup2

I get motion sickness really bad and I did not have any problems at all on MS (tamer side). It does not spin it just rocks back and forth.

We've been on both sides. I'm not sure what causes your motion sickness but the only difference we could find was there were no G factor in the liftoff and no "resistance" when you are pressing the buttons in your capsule. The warning to look straight ahead and not close your eyes is not in the Green Team version. I think you should be OK.

My 61 year old mother rode it, so it must not be too bad!

I spoke to a CM about MS and he told me that if you follow the instuctions to the letter, i.e watch the screens and keep your eyes open even the spinning one is fine to ride.

We rode the tamer version last May and my DH was queasy on the wild version and really liked the tame version much better. No feeling queasy at all. You still get alot of the same visual sensations as the wild version, but not the g forces.

My four and six year old loved the tame version of MS. It was one of their favorite rides -- we rode it about four times in October!

I could never ride the wild one, but I did fine on the tame one and it was a lot of fun. I do the Bonine-in-the-morning thing too.

The capsule tilts in various directions, and there is a video display that shows you zooming through space and down a Martian canyon. If that bothers you, you can just close your eyes and you'll be fine. Personally, I thought it was a lot tamer than Star Tours.

I wouldn't hesitate to let any child who meets the height requirement ride it, there are no g-forces (no spinning), so the health warnings they give for the orange version don't apply.

I never rode the orange version because I was afraid of getting sick and blowing a day of my vacation. I rode the green version a couple of months ago, and LOVED it. I went back to Epcot to ride it one more time on the last night of my trip. I think it's my new favorite ride!

Ooops, just wanted to add that if you're prone to claustrophobia, you might want to skip the orange and green versions. It's very tight in the capsule.

Thanks for all the replies. This makes me feel much better and will definitely try the tame version. I can't handle body wars or star tours for sure but I have to at least try MS!

Aren't the viewing screens the same as Soarin' (omni) in the sense you see it like it is really happening?

I just rode the tamer version (never been on the Orange one) and I was really nervous, but it was nothing to be worried about. Its really cool and I'm glad they have this version. My 6 & 8 year old rode this too and loved it.

There's a little viewscreen (and I do mean little, if it's 12", it's a lot) right in front of you where you see the things that are going on outside your 'window', and where you see Mission Control at the end.

I'm gonna have to disagree with most everyone else on this one. I have not ridden the orange, but did the green the last time we were there. I tried my best to talk DH into it, but he refused. I didn't know it was a simulator, and simulators really mess with his equilibrium. Once I got on I was really glad he hadn't come with me (I'd have never heard the end of it! ;) ).
On the other hand, I'm a bit claustrophobic and this one didn't bother me at all.

It is similar to Star Tours/Body Wars in that you do move with the motion on the screen. If those two bother you, you might think twice about green Mission Space.

However, the movement in Mission Space is 10x more smooth than the jerkiness of Star Tours. It is a very smooth ride, but your capsule DOES move in concert with the images you are seeing on screen. You tilt back and do feel a bit like lift off. You move at various points in the 4 minute video.
It's tamer than Star Tours, but, IMO, it is very similar in many aspects.

My wife is in the same boat as the above poster's DH. I told her not to go on even the green ride, although my DD12 and DS6 and I enjoyed it so much we rode it about 6 times in early November.

As I'm getting older (I'm 29, so not OLD, but this has started in the past couple of years), I get really nauseated on rides that spin. I love roller coasters, even if they go upside down and do all sorts of funky things, but I can't do the Teacups. :rotfl: I'm really looking forward to MS and I want the full experience. Would I be able to handle it?

Of course, since i'm so darn curious as to what would happen, I decided to look to my side while riding the regular version of MS. Didnt disorient me at all. I guess it's all on your tolerance level. I can't imagine riding the tame version. It would be just like playing a video game at home.
