My DS11 really wants to do this, but I'm not sure how the ride is. Its a motion simulator, if I understand correctly. Does it cause motion sickness? What if its bothering and you close your eyes--would that help?

In general, in a motion simulator, it will make matters worse to close your eyes. Proplerly designed simulators make the visual and the physical effects MATCH so that your senses can "justify/compensate" for what appears to be happening.

The Star Tours simulators are much different than the ones used in Mission Space, however, and the "stress-levels" in Star Tours are more the "jerky and slanted" kind, without the truely "increased gravity/spinning" conditions of MS.

Again in general, I'd think a typical 11 year-old would LOVE Star Tours and not suffer any ill effects from it.

If its YOU that thinks YOU'LL have a problem (who can say for sure), then you could allow the child to ride while you wait at the exit of the vehicle.

My 11 year old son is prone to car sickness. However, he "rode" Star Tours and loved it! We did it several times.

DH has issues with simulator rides, but went on this one for me last year. He did ok on it. Much better than Body Wars which almost knowcked him out of commission for the rest of the day :crazy2: - thank goodness for ginger pills and papaya extract! They did a much better job of matching up the movements of the simulators with the pictures on this than they did on Body Wars (which explains the lower numbers of reported motion sickness).

I'm a coaster chicken, but I can handle the simulators ok and especially love this one. I think I even liked it when I was little and afraid of a LOT of the rides.

I remember riding Back to the Future at Universal when I was little and had my eyes covered on it for most of the time- didn't make me sick, but didn't really help. I know, I know- it's a different ride, but it's a simulator, too.

If all else fails, make sure to take some ginger pills with you to prevent motion sickness and some papaya extract to take care of nausea after you get it.

There are a few people who come off of Star Tours with mild motion sickness or headaches, but it's a very small number.

Star Tours doesn't turn upside-down or more than about 25 degrees off of horizontal during the whole ride. It does rattle a little here and there, but in general it's a fairly tame thrill ride compared to roller coasters or other simulators.

Just hold on tight and watch the movie. If you do feel any ill effects, the ride only lasts a few minutes, so you will be out quickly.

If your DS is a big Star Wars fan, he will love Star Tours - not only the ride, but the queue area and the gift shop at the end.

My DS first rode Star Tours when he was only 4 and loved it! It's still the first ride he heads to in MGM. Like others said, it's not the same as M:S or the newer rides. This is pretty old compared to other rides and the technology shows. Still a great ride though! I say try it!! :thumbsup2

I get motion sickness horribly normally, but rode this with hubby and had no problems. It's not bad. Don't close your eyes for sure though!

We did a 'movie ride' in Gatlinburg once that was so bad...I was ill for 2 days. I had teen agers making fun of me (including my own) for having to leave during the ride. I was crying and sick as a dog.

I think Star Tours is mild....so have fun!! :) pixiedust:

Im usually really good with motion simulated rides. Ive never gotten sick on one. But i did this one and i had to look at the floor and close my eyes. Im a teenager so im in good health and love to have fun but this ride i will never do again just because it made me feel queezy :crazy2: . so you can try it if you like but if you start feeling icky just look down, it works.

Star Tours is very old technology. Its a 1st generation simulator ride.
You get into a box and sit in front of a small screen with 8 or so other people. Very jerky and uncomfortable.

In contrast, Back to the Future at Universal- is a 2nd generation simulator technology. A much better ride because you are not stuck in a small (often hot) little box. Now you sit in a big building and watch on a big screen.
Still jerky and uncomfortable.

Soaring would have to be 3rd generation simulator- Big Screen, big open seating, and smooth movement replaces jerky.

I am the biggest Star Wars fan! :worship: But don't ride Star Tours anymore. The ride needs an up-date very badly. :crazy2: ( I still like to go and see the props out front and in the line area, also visit the :teeth: gift shop.)

I haven't ever gotten sick on rides (knock on wood) but my inlaws do and when we rode that my fil and sil both got sick. They would NOT have rode it if they had known it was a motion simulator.

Star Tours has never been a very herky-jerky kind of ride. Body Wars, it's sister ride, was always much more vomit inducing.
