how bad is it really??

Man, oh man, I went on this ride several years ago, because I was determined to check out the theming, which is amazing, but it wasn't a pretty sight when the dropping started! I curled up into a fetal position, as wrapped around that lap bar as possible. My dh and two teenage sons were on the ride as well, and I remember thinking, "I hope they're OK, but I've got to save myself!" I guess I now know what a courageous mother I'd be in an emergency! I also have the freefalling nightmares, so that could be the problem. I love all of the other coasters, but must admit to a major chickening out when it came to riding MS. Didn't want to find out until it was too late that I couldn't take the spinning!

As I said in another thread, my DD age 5 and my DW age...yeah right...rode ToT last July. One of them came off with a big smile, the other could have cried like a baby. You guess which was which.

Needless to say, I now get to ride ToT with the kids :teeth:

ToT is my favorite ride. It more about messing with your head....the sounds and the change in temp when you near the doors that open. When it's not busy I've been know to ride it four or five times in row :teleport:

I used to like RocknRoller coaster, but it makes my head hurt. Once you get past the initial take-off, it is just like any other roller coaster.

Now Mission Space, I just plain dislike. Don't like the feeling of having my face sucked onto the back of my head, but that's just me. I get an extra trip on Test Track while everyone else does Space!!

This is an interesting post because it's the one thrill ride neither me or my DD (8) have tried. Luckily my DD seems to have gotten the best of both worlds. She loves all the Mountains, Test Track & RNRcoaster (her new fave) like her mom and handled Mission Space fine (like her dad). I will NEVER go on MS again - that's all that needs to be said. If MS messed up my head for the whole day, what will TofT do? I would really like to try it next time but have never been on any type of free fall ride.

I think TOT is a great ride but I will NEVER get on it again!

Funny because I love coasters and all kinds of rides. I made my BF go on it alone first because I didn't think I'd like it. He came off grinning from ear to ear loving it. So, I figured if he liked it, I'd like it too...WRONG! I think I was the only 26 year old that was CRYING afterwars. I couldn't catch my breath from the first drop until the 5th one!

I'd do it just to do it but once is enough for me! I'll be over at Rockin' RollerCoaster if you're looking for me!

My wife suffers from spells of vertigo but totally loves ToT. She has problems watching the films in Canada and France. We did Mission Space on our last trip in December and it messed both of us up for the rest of the day. Good luck.

:earboy2:

kruegeme - I had the same problem in the Canada movie! I had to keep looking down. Your wife sounds alot like me which means I think I can handle ToT. Thanks, I'll try it next time!

I find that every year older I get (and I'm only in my 30's!) the less I can handle rollercoaster/motion kinds of things. I used to be able to go on the Tea Cups no problem. Now, it gives me an instant migraine. Rockin' Roller I also love but it is so jerky it also gives me a bit of a migraine if I do it more than once. I also have a SERIOUS fear of heights. Just riding up the elevator (glimpsing the outside) in the Eiffel Tower in Las Vegas had me seriously shaking. I have nightmares of riding on chair lifts (I skiied from the ages of 2 to 16). Climbing up watch towers in national parks I usually only make one flight and have to stop.

Given all of this, Tower is one of the better thrill rides. Most of the fall is in the dark so I don't really get that intense intense panic terror feeling because I can't see how far off the ground I am. (I do try not to look when the door opens, but since it is so quick even if I forget it's not too bad.) If you want to test yourself, this is the one to try imho.

This thread is scaring me! TOT is the only thrill ride I've never been on at WDW. If it were up to me, I'd NEVER ride it...darn peer pressure. I'm going to have to cough up a lung to get out of it this time :guilty:

I HATE drops, and the only way I survive Splash Mountain is because it's just 1 drop and it's over in 2 seconds. TOT has FIVE DROPS!!!!!!!!!! :earseek: I should have gone on it way back when it only had one. I've never done a freefall ride, but considering how much I hate that stomach dropping sensation, I'd say there's pretty much zero liklihood of my enjoying this ride. Especially because the anticipation will kill me. I won't even notice all the great special effects because I'll be freaking over the what's to come...

Not as intense as MS. You could do it!

I'm afraid I will have to ride this trip. It is DS's favorite ride, but last trip DH came out GREEN!!!! I hope I can survive!!

When we went to Disney last summer, I was terrified of the Tower of Terror (but I love thrill rides so it was completely worth it to at least try). The anticipation is the killer and the theming is pretty intense the first few times. Having said that, it ended up being my favorite ride and we (sister, brother-in-law and I) ended up doing two days at MGM where we'd continually Fast Pass it so we ended up riding about 10 times in all.

There are some hints to make it easier the first few times. First, do not sit in the front row. I found the ride to be way more intense in the front (by the end, we loved ending up in the front but the first time or two I would have been scared witless). You can ask a castmember to put you in the middle or the back (there are three rows on each side). Second, my favorite place once on the ride until I got used to it was a seat near a wall. Again, ask a castmember (or if you are with others you can arrange yourself). That way, I sort of braced one knee against the wall and then held onto the handrest on the side of the seat. Third, you can pretty much tell when the dropping will start. We went in July and when you enter the elevator shaft, you can feel the heat from the outside air, and you also will hear a click as the ride "locks" into place. Once I noticed those things, it made the anticipation a lot easier.

But in my opinion it's a ride not to miss.

people who are not sure on to ride it or not go back to the 1st page and go to the link i put up
has videos of:
the line of the ride
